Abstract:

The present invention provides a dietary or food supplement for healthy humans that includes a combination of 4-hydroxyisoleucine and creatine, or nutraceutically acceptable derivatives of these two compounds. The supplement may include additives such as carbohydrates or amino acids. The invention further includes a regimen for supplementing a healthy athlete's diet by administering on a regular basis to the athlete 4-hydroxyisoleucine and creatine, or nutraceutically acceptable derivatives of these two compounds. The invention also provides a method for enhancing the body's absorption and utilization of a nutrient, comprising administering 4-hydroxyisoleucine or a nutraceutically acceptable derivative thereof in combination with the nutrient.

Abstract:

An apparatus for use in an ink jet recording device or printer for cleaning a writing head having at least one orifice therein through which ink flows is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a manifold movable in a horizontal direction and including an internal reservoir and a brush formed of a plurality of fiber elements extending from the reservoir through the manifold, the fiber elements being urged into contact with the writing head upon sufficient movement of the manifold; a vacuum system communicating in fluid flow with the reservoir for forming a negative air pressure along the fibers; and an ink collecting chamber for containing discharged ink from the writing head, the chamber communicating in fluid flow with both the manifold and the vacuum system, whereby upon the fibers being urged into contact with the writing head the vacuum system causes ink to flow from the writing head along the fibers and into the collecting chamber.

Abstract:

A slave processor for controlling environments has a microprocessor coupled to digital inputs and outputs, to an analog-to-digital convertor connected to analog outputs, to an interface connected, and to a decoder, to a carrier current transmitter, and to a switch. The interface is connected to the serial input of the microprocessor and the switch is connected to the serial output of the microprocessor. The microprocessor is capable of retrieving at least one bit of data information from the digital inputs, retrieving a byte of data information from the analog-to-digital convertor, sending a bit of control information to the digital outputs and sending a pulse-width-modulated control signal to the carrier current transmitter in accordance with operating system instructions and applications program instructions in a first mode, and the microprocessor is capable of outputting stored applications program instructions, logged data and status information in serial form to the interface and receiving new applications program instructions in serial form from the interface in accordance with operating system instructions in a second mode.

Abstract:

An apparatus for use in an ink jet recording device or printer for cleaning or protecting the nozzles in a writing head is disclosed. The apparatus comprises rotatably mounted supply and take-up reels; a movable absorbent cleaning belt extending from the supply reel to the take-up reel, the belt including a plurality of embossed elements and a plurality of openings positioned in sequence along the belt for being brought into contact with the nozzles; and a sensor for sensing the positioning of openings in said belt over said nozzles and thereby controlling movement of the belt to permit the embossed elements to be drawn across the nozzles to clean ink and impurities therefrom until the next openings are positioned over the nozzles whereby the sensors cause the belt to cease movement and permit the ink jet writing heads to print through the openings.

The present invention relates to ink supply system for an ink jet printer comprising a primary ink supply source and a secondary or temporary ink supply reservoir connected in series to an ink transfer conduit which delivers the ink upon demand to the ink jets of the print heads. The secondary ink supply reservoir comprises a thin flexible membrane which serves as the upper surface and which expands or contracts depending upon the amount of ink present in the reservoir. The presence of a proximity device senses the movement of the flexible membrane so as to monitor the quantity of ink present in the reservoir. The secondary reservoir acts as a static pressure regulator for ink entering the ink jets.

Abstract:

A suture anchor installation system includes a body portion having a distal end and a proximal end, an elongated shaft extending distally from the distal end of the body portion, the shaft having a distal end with an annular region disposed at the distal end of the shaft. A suture anchor is attachable within the annular region and comprising a setting portion and an engagement portion, the suture anchor having at least one suture associated therewith. A suture retaining member is positioned on the body portion, the suture retaining member including tabs to grip the at least one suture extending from the suture anchor to maintain the setting portion within the engagement portion. A loading unit for use with a suturing apparatus is mountable on the body portion including a mounting member positioned on the body portion and configured to releasably hold at least one suture needle, the at least one suture needle being associated with the at least one suture extending from the suture anchor. The loading unit further includes a receiving structure formed in the body portion for receiving a distal end portion of the suturing apparatus in operative alignment with mounting member to facilitate mounting of the at least one surgical needle in the suturing apparatus. A method for applying a suture anchor comprises the steps of providing a suture anchor installation system, implanting the suture anchor into a bone, securing the suture anchor within the bone, mounting the suture apparatus into the receiving structure of the loading unit, loading the at least one suture needle into the suturing apparatus, and suturing the suture anchor to soft tissue with the at least one suture needle.
