  • US Patent:
    7240564, Jul 10, 2007
  • Filed:
    Jul 30, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/208518
  • Inventors:
Peter D. Totman - Ogden UT, US
Randy L. Everton - Brigham City UT, US
Mark R. Egget - Brigham City UT, US
David J. Macon - Ogden UT, US
  • Assignee:
Alliant Techsystems Inc. - Edina MN
  • International Classification:
    G01N 3/08
  • US Classification:
    73827
  • Abstract:
A method and apparatus for detecting and determining event characteristics such as, for example, the material failure of a component, in a manner which significantly reduces the amount of data collected. A sensor array, including a plurality of individual sensor elements, is coupled to a programmable logic device (PLD) configured to operate in a passive state and an active state. A triggering event is established such that the PLD records information only upon detection of the occurrence of the triggering event which causes a change in state within one or more of the plurality of sensor elements. Upon the occurrence of the triggering event, the change in state of the one or more sensor elements causes the PLD to record in memory which sensor element detected the event and at what time the event was detected. The PLD may be coupled with a computer for subsequent downloading and analysis of the acquired data.

Douglas Smith - North Ogden UT, US
Peter Totman - Ogden UT, US
Randy Everton - Brigham City UT, US
Paul Jean - Layton UT, US
Marvin Bunderson - Brigham City UT, US
Mark Eggett - Brigham City UT, US
Randy Borgstrom - South Weber UT, US
  • International Classification:
    G01N003/20
  • US Classification:
    073/849000
  • Abstract:
An instrumented pin member is provided that is capable of measuring bending moments, and optionally of measuring bending and axial strain in real or near real time. The instrumented pin member includes a pin member body disposed about a pin member axis, wherein the pin member body includes a bending portion. A sensing device is positioned at the pin member body within the bending portion for sensing a bending strain in the bending portion exclusive of a net axial strain, and for outputting a sensor measurement signal representative of the bending strain. A sensor measurement signal output device is provided for outputting the sensor measurement signal from the sensor device. A related system includes a plurality of pin members, among other things. Related methods also are disclosed.

  • US Patent:
    20100244351, Sep 30, 2010
  • Filed:
    Mar 29, 2010
  • Appl. No.:
    12/749256
  • Inventors:
Peter Totman - Ogden UT, US
  • International Classification:
    A63C 11/04
    B25H 1/00
    B25H 1/10
  • US Classification:
    269296, 269303, 269329
  • Abstract:
An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for retaining a ski in a position to maintain the ski. The apparatus includes a first support positioned between the front portion of the ski and a support structure to support a front portion of the ski. A second support is positioned between the rear portion of the ski and the support structure to support a rear portion of the ski. A binder engagement including a rigid engagement element engages only one of a binder toe piece and a binder heal piece of a binder. A coupling member couples the binder engagement to the support structure and prevents movement of the ski relative to the support structure in a forward and rearward direction. The supports and the binder engagement apply forces in an opposite direction to secure the ski to the apparatus.

  • Abstract:
An apparatus and system are disclosed for supporting a ski on a support structure. The apparatus includes a ski support member, a spacer, and a coupling element. The ski support member includes a ski engaging portion and a binder engaging portion. The binder engaging portion is positionable within a receiving space in a binder toe piece. The ski engaging portion includes a substantially flat surface engageable with one of a deck surface of the ski and an element disposed on the deck surface of the ski to maintain the ski in a desirable orientation. The spacer is positioned between the ski support member and a the support structure. The coupling element is configured to couple the ski support member to the support structure.
