Products and methods for ring dyeing a yarn and/or surface dyeing a fabric are provided. The product and method discloses the application of a dye binding composition including a urethane based polymer to a textile yarn, fabric, or garment. The dye binding composition is engineered so that the composition is positioned on or near the surface of the yarn, producing a ring dyed material. The dye binding composition can be colored with selective dyes that bind to the composition but generally do not have affinity for textile substrate. Garments created using this fabric can be abraded to remove surface polymer and color in different locations of the garment, creating an antiqued appearing garment. Dyes of different classifications can be used to produce novel performance and coloration effects in textile materials and garments. This process has been demonstrated on yarn (for a denim-like appearance), knitted and woven fabrics, and garments.
Tag For Visually Indicating Loss Of A Protective Agent
An indicator tag is provided for visually indicating the remaining effectiveness of a protective chemical treatment agent on a textile article. The tag is made from a fabric dyed with at least one dye to impart to the piece of fabric a predetermined initial color which indicates that the chemical treatment agent on the textile article is effective. The dye has a chromophore which is susceptible to degradation by reagents which would destroy the effectiveness of the chemical treatment agent so that exposure of the indicator tag to such reagents causes the indicator tag to change from its predetermined initial color to another color, thereby indicating that the textile article with which the indicator tag is used has been exposed to reagents which may cause a loss in the effectiveness of the protective chemical treatment agent on the textile article.
A ring dyed textile product resulting from the treatment of yarn, fabric, or garments with a combination of a dye, engineered polymer, and heat. The resulting material can be engineered into fabric, garments, or other textile product. Subsequent abrasion of the article can produce apparel in a broad color range that has an aesthetic appearance similar to that of garments produced from indigo dyed yarn. Colorfastness performance including crocking, washfastness, and lightfastness are good to excellent for a broad color range.
