Abstract:
An in situ fan case rub strip machining tool mounts to a LPT/fan rotor shaft assembly of a gas turbine engine. After a fan is removed therefrom such that the machining tool is rotatable about an engine axis of rotation in conjunction with rotation of the LPT/fan rotor shaft assembly. The machining tool permits machining of a rub strip within the fan case of the gas turbine engine without disassembly of the fan case from the core engine as heretofore required. As the machining tool is mounted to the LPT/fan rotor shaft assembly, the cutting tool is accurately locatable relative the engine axis of rotation such that the rub strip is evenly and precisely machined to be concentric with the engine axis to assure proper fan blade tip to rub strip interface.
A solar hot water heating system includes a plurality of pipe assemblies, each having an outer pressure-sustaining tube and an inner perforated spiral tubing positioned at the roof of a building for which hot water is supplied. End seals close off the ends of the assemblies and support the inner tubing within the outer tubing. Water mixing and prevention of hot spots is accomplished passively by passing water through the spiral inner tubing. An economically favorable system is achieved.
Method And Apparatus For Forming Sheet Metal Ducts
A closed tube forming apparatus including a base having spaced apart first and second support members; an elongated first die having one end supported by the first support member and an opposite end supported by the second support member, the one end being detachable from the first support member so as to permit separating movement therebetween; and an elongated second die supported by the base and extending parallel to the first die. One of the first and second dies has a transverse V-shaped cross section forming a knife edge and the other die defines a longitudinally extending V-shaped groove conforming substantially to the V-shaped cross section. Also included in the apparatus are a drive mechanism for producing relative movement between the first and second dies into forming positions with the knife edge received by the groove and a release mechanism operable to effect the detachment of the one end from the first support member and thereby permit the separating movement therebetween into positions substantially spaced apart.
