The present invention provides for methods of screening agents for cytotoxic and/or anti-microbial activity. In particular embodiments, the loss of a fluorescent signal from the treated cells, due to cell death or inhibition of growth, is measured for several different cell types in parallel.
Disclosed are methods for modulating apoptosis and altering programmed cell death events using novel Endo-SR gene compositions and the polypeptides encoded thereby. Also disclosed are methods for repairing DNA, modulating genetic recombination in a cell, and altering DNA rearrangement in a host cell. Also disclosed are methods for the design and isolation of peptidomimetics and other inhibitors of Endo-SR useful in the treatment of leukemias, lymphomas, and other cancers.
Bifunctional Compositions For The Treatment Of Cancer
The present invention relates to the use of bifunctional compositions in methods of treating or preventing cancer. The compositions comprise a DNA ligand and a protein ligand for the treatment or prevention of cancer, wherein the DNA ligand interferes with DNA metabolism and the protein ligand interferes with signaling pathways. In particular, the present invention relates to the use of pyronaridine in methods of treating of preventing cancer. The invention also relates to compositions, compounds and medicaments comprising a DNA ligand and a protein ligand, for example, compositions, compounds and medicaments comprising pyronaridine.
