Perforating And Cutting Device And Process For Producing A Sheet Of Individually Severable And Releasable Stamps
Richard B. Abt - Branford CT Richard J. Brining - Old Lyme CT William G. Gunther - Guilford CT
Assignee:
George Schmitt & Co. - Branford CT
International Classification:
B26D 900
US Classification:
83861
Abstract:
An apparatus and method is provided for simultaneously perforating and cutting a lithe sheet material having multiple layers containing at least an upper and lower layer, comprising a knife die having a cutting edge, wherein the cutting edge is contained in the same plane, and an anvil die located opposite the knife die, wherein the surface of the anvil die contains a pattern of cavities which corresponds to the locations where primarily only the upper layer of the material is cut completely through and protrusions of the anvil primarily correspond to the locations where the entire thickness of the material is cut along the same line as the cut through the upper layer. A sheet material of removable shapes is also provided comprising an upper layer having a printed side and a self adhesive side, and a lower layer having a release surface adjacent the upper layer's self adhesive side, wherein a shape has been completely cut out of the upper layer so that the shape can be pealed from the lower layer and the lower layer has been perforated through its thickness along all or part of the same lines as the cut shape so that the lower layer can either be kept in whole or torn along the perforation.
Integrated And Computer Controlled Printing Press, Inspection Rewinder And Die Cutter System
William G. Gunther - Guilford CT Peter Moore - Clinton CT Richard B. Abt - Branford CT Richard J. Brining - Old Lyme CT Anthony A. Penati - Killingworth CT Christopher C. McGeary - Allison Park PA
Assignee:
George Schmitt & Company, Inc. - Branford CT
International Classification:

Abstract:
An integrated and computer controlled printing press, inspection rewinder and die cutter system for manufacturing printed products from a web of material is provided, which generally comprises at least one rotary die cutter, a plurality of cameras, a plurality of networked computers electrically connected to the cameras for inspecting the print registers and the print to cut register of each product, and at least one monitor connected to the networked computers. The system uses an identification code for each product to precisely detect, track and record in a permanent format the defective and non-defective printed products at every stage of the manufacturing process and can also automatically adjust the die cutters to correct the cut to print registration in real time.

Apparatus And Method For Preparing Individual Wound Rolls From A Slitted Web Of Material
An apparatus and method for preparing individual wound rolls from a slitted web of material provides for a driver roller which continuously feeds the web of material into the apparatus, an idler roller disposed such that the web of material is fed about the driver roller and into contact with the idler roller; a core disposed such that the web of material passes between and into contact with the driver roller and the core, and the idler roller and the core; a tucking apparatus for tucking the web of material about said core; and a reciprocating roller for driving the core to initiate and continue winding of slitted web of material about the core.
Method And Apparatus For The Manufacture Of Individual Rolls From A Web Of Material
An apparatus and method for preparing wound rolls from a web of material is disclosed having a feeding roller which feeds a web of material into contact with a core having a central axis. A plurality of tuckers tuck the web of material about the core, then the web is wound about the core having an enlarged diameter. A sealant is applied to the wound rolls, while the rolls are on the core, so as to maintain the rolls in a tightly wound manner. The core is attached to two support members, at least one support member being movable between a position attached to the core and a position dislocated from the core. After the sealant has been applied, at least one support member moves to the dislocated position such that wound rolls may be removed from the core by a movable extractor. The extractor forces the wound and sealed rolls off the core, which has a reduced diameter, and into a bin. The core is then automatically returned to a position and condition for receiving and winding more stamps, thus allowing the process to begin again with no human intervention.
