Abstract:
A card embossing system for embossing information onto a sheet of material prior to cutting individual cards from the sheet is disclosed. Information is embossed onto the sheet in a pattern of rows and columns. Information on adjacent columns is offset relative to one another. When individual cards are cut from the sheet, they are collected in a receiving tray having a plurality of cells arranged in a pattern of rows and columns such that adjacently stacked cards have embossing which is offset from one another. This prevents nesting of cards and allows for improved feeding from a hopper into a machine for further processing, such as printing or embossing individualized information on each card.
A card package assembly is disclosed having a carrier for holding a card, a card having a back surface which has account-related indicia thereon, the account-related indicia being concealed by a scratch-off material layer adhered to an inner region of the back surface of the card, wherein the scratch-off material is removable to reveal the indicia. A dry-release adhesive is used to adhere the elements of the assembly such that separation of the elements exposes the scratch-off material and prevents reassembling of the assembly using the same adhesive. A label is preferably attached to the back of the card having at least two layers, the scratch-off material being applied between the layers on the first layer covering the indicia. The two layers are adhered together using the dry-release adhesive, and the second layer is preferably adhered to the carrier via a high tack adhesive. A method for assembling the card package assembly by providing the elements described above is also disclosed.
An electronic media disc assembly having an electronic media disc for point of purchase activation of an account associated with the disc is disclosed. In one embodiment, the disc is programmed to allow a user access to a global computer network for either a selected or predetermined duration. The internet use, or other access allowed by the disc, is preferably activated at the point of purchase. In another embodiment, the disc is an on-line gift card which either has a catalog stored on the disc or the disc directs the user to the seller's website. An account associated with the website or catalog is preferably activated at the point of purchase and the user may select items for purchase using the activated account. The electronic media disc has two surfaces, a base surface and a top surface. Preferably, the bottom surface has a data storage region while the top surface contains an encoded region. The encoded region is a magnetic stripe, a bar code, or other encoding. The encoded region on the disc can be scanned through a magnetic stripe reader with ease to activate the account associated with the disc. The disc is optionally affixed to a carrier with the encoded region on the carrier. Optionally, the disc or carrier has a display hole for hanging on a display rack.
