Abstract:

The invention relates to naphtha hydrodesulfurization incorporating either high temperature depressurization or controlled heating for mercaptan removal. More particularly, the invention relates to a naphtha hydrodesulfurization process, wherein the hot naphtha exiting the desulfurization reactor contains mercaptans, most of which are removed without olefin loss, by depressurizing the hot naphtha, thermally treating the hot naphtha, or some combination thereof. The desulfurized naphtha may be cooled and condensed to a liquid, separated from the gaseous H S, stripped and sent to a mogas pool.

Abstract:

A process for reducing the amount of mercaptan sulfur in a petroleum stream without significantly changing its octane value. The process comprising a three-phase system wherein the petroleum stream to be treated is passed through a fixed bed of catalyst in the presence of a stripping gas. Abstract:

This invention relates to a method of improving the catalytic performance of palladium or ruthenium, rhenium-on-carbon hydrogenation catalysts operating in aqueous media where loss of soluble rhenium may result in rapid catalytic failure. A rhenium-containing hydrogenation catalyst comprised of rhenium on a support material is regenerated by first treating the catalyst with aqueous perrhenic acid or potassium perrhenate followed by treating the catalyst under reducing conditions at elevated temperature and pressure. Treatment of the catalyst as described replenishes dispersed fresh finely divided rhenium which enhances the activity of the catalyst while at the same time allowing the operations to be carried out in situ in the hydrogenation reactor or in a side stream reactor with significant savings in reducing reactor down time and precious metal expenses.

Color-forming materials or their precursors present in crude 1,4-butanediol are reduced more efficiently by subjecting the crude 1,4-butanediol to distillation under conditions wherein substantially all the water present in the crude 1,4-butanediol is first removed and then the 1,4-butanediol with reduced water content is further distilled to remove the color-forming materials.

Abstract:

Ferrierite is ion exchanged with trivalent rare earth metals by a hydrothermal ion exchange method. The ion exchange is carried out by contacting ferrierite, in which its cation exchange positions are occupied by hydrogen or a hydrogen precursor, with an aqueous solution of one or more rare earth metal cations at a temperature above the boiling point of the solution. After the ion exchange, preferably at least 10% and more preferably at least 15% of the ferrierite cation exchange capacity is occupied by a trivalent rare earth metal cation. When combined with a catalytic metal, such as a Group VIII noble metal, the trivalent rare earth metal ion exchanged ferrierite is useful as a dewaxing catalyst having good selectivity for lubricating oil fractions, particularly when dewaxing a Fischer-Tropsch wax hydroisomerate.
