Abstract:

A dual-mode broadband modem operative to operate in a service mode and a surveillance mode is disclosed. Generally, the dual-mode broadband modem comprises a primary communication device; a secondary communication device; a central processing unit in communication with the primary and secondary communication devices; and a memory unit in communication with the central processing unit. In the service mode, the primary communication device communicates with a broadband service provider and the central processing unit stores historical information regarding performance of the primary communication device in the memory unit. If an interruption in broadband service is detected, or the performance of the primary communication device falls below a predetermined threshold, the dual-mode broadband modem switches to surveillance mode and the secondary communication device is activated. The secondary communication device communicates with the broadband service provider to send at least a portion of the historical information regarding performance of the primary communication device to the broadband service provider for processing to determine a source of the interruption in broadband service or a source of the decreased performance of the primary communication device.

Abstract:

An equivalent working length (EWL) determinative system () for use in a digital subscriber line (DSL) telecommunication network () is provided. The EWL system () includes a DSL circuit () having a customer site () with customer premises equipment (). The customer premises equipment () receives and transmits communication signals and generates a first attenuation signal in response to the communication signals. A remote terminal () forms a loop () with the customer site () and has a loop length. The remote terminal () includes a remote terminal transceiver () that is in communication with the customer premises equipment (). A main controller () is electrically coupled to the customer premises equipment () and determines an EWL of the loop () in response to the first attenuation signal. A method of performing the same is also provided.

A computer system comprises a memory and a processor. The memory provides an empirical model for estimating data rates of local loops having one or more bridged taps. The processor uses the empirical model to estimate and output a data rate of a local loop that includes a bridged tap. Abstract:

A substantially solvent free aqueous two-component coating composition dispersion which, when applied to a substrate, cures to a film having properties of adhesion and bonding which are equal to or superior to films obtained from conventional solvent-based two-component polyurethane or epoxy systems. The first component is a combined aqueous polyol phase and an amine phase. The polyol phase comprises a member consisting of an acid containing polyol or a blend of polyols containing an acid containing polyol such that the average hydroxyl functionality of the polyol phase is at least 1. 5 and has an acid number of between about 15 and 200. The amine phase is an amine or blend of amines containing active hydrogens reactive with NCO groups such that the average active hydrogen functionality is at least 1. 5. The amine phase is present in a quantity sufficient to substantially neutralize the acid containing polyols. The second component is a member selected from the group consisting of an aliphatic polyisocyanate, a cycloaliphatic polyisocyanate and an aromatic polyisocyanate and adducts and mixtures thereof.
