Abstract:

An item that might be lost is provided with a badge featuring an array of glass beads. In seeking to retrieve such a lost item, an atmospheric-penetrating beam of laser is directed into the search area, and the signals from a reflectometer are monitored. The item having the badge of the array of glass beads is more easily retrievable when lost or mislaid than an item without such badge.

Abstract:

The invention is directed to a method of polishing a surface of a substrate comprising aluminum, comprising contacting a surface of the substrate with a polishing pad and a polishing composition comprising an abrasive, an agent that oxidizes aluminum, and a liquid carrier, and abrading at least a portion of the surface to remove at least some aluminum from the substrate and to polish the surface of the substrate, wherein the abrasive is in particulate form and is suspended in the liquid carrier.

Methods and apparatus are described for viewing and electing to purchase an item for the purchase price or via a financing option. In one embodiment, the invention displays a purchase price for an item and simultaneously displays financing information for the item wherein the financing information includes a monthly payment. In another embodiment, the invention displays a total purchase price for a selected group; simultaneously displays financing information for the selected group; selects an item to form part of the selected group; and updates the total purchase price and the financing information to reflect the item which is part of the selected group.

Abstract:

A two-part mailer incorporates a conventional return envelope thereinto. The return envelope is affixed to a back side of a first web part that is subsequently heat-sealed to a second web part to form a two-part mailer. The method of assembly has a step in which the return envelope is affixed to the back side of the first web part in such a manner that the return envelope will not interfere with a glassing patch and/or die-cut area in the first web part nor interfere with removal perforations along the web part nor cause excessive bulk in areas where the first web part is heat-sealed to the second web part to form the two-part mailer.

Abstract:

A method is practiced to provide an outgoing mailer, parts of which are used to provide a return envelope. A feature of particular interest is that both the face and the back of the return envelope and face of the outgoing envelope are formed from the same web of paper. The article in its outgoing form has a top or face web with a window near its lower right corner, through which a variable address is viewed. A return address may be provided at the upper left corner, and postage at the upper right corner. Under the top face an intermediate web portion exists, which is an extension of the top web folded back nearer its own left edge and doubled against a corresponding segment of the top face. The intermediate web portion is of limited length, so that it does not cover the window. Finally, a bottom web underlies the top face and intermediate web portion, and is of length equal to the top web.

Abstract:

An envelope comprising a sheet of paper or the like which is folded along one foldine and then folded along a second foldline perpendicular to the first line to provide an envelope with an address viewable through a window but wherein an insert in the envelope cannot move to and obscure the view of the address through the window. One embodiment includes a return envelope made up of a portion of the aforesaid sheet and a second sheet which overlies said portion of the first sheet. Another embodiment provides a mailer without a viewing window and which is formed from a single ply foldable about orthogonally related foldlines and heat sealable along its edges to form a four-ply mailer.

Abstract:

The recipient of a mailer, following pre-printed instructions, severs a marginal portion in order to separate a cover sheet, through a window of which the initial mail-to address label was visible, from a return envelope which, except for the initial mail-to address, has an upside-down orientation relative to the mailer. The recipient then turns the return envelope right-side-up which places the initial mail-to address in the upper left hand corner, upside down, as a from address, and places the return mail-to address (which was formerly hidden, in an inverted orientation, by the cover sheet, right-side-up in a customary position. The recipient then detaches a remittance document from the separated cover sheet and places it in the return envelope, e. g. together with a bank check or other form of payment, seals the return envelope and mails it back.
