Abstract:

A method of fabricating semiconductor devices, such as conductors, fuses, capacitors, diodes, transistors, and the like, includes forming or obtaining a semiconductor wafer having a substrate material, an oxide layer, and a nitride layer. Mesas (the edges of which include active regions) are then formed by etching trenches (gaps) into the substrate material through the nitride and oxide layers. In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, the nitride layer is then pulled-back or retracted from the edges of the active regions thus exposing the corners of the active regions. The gaps and the edges of the active regions are then lined with a layer of oxide which rounds the corners of the active regions. The gaps are filled with another layer of oxide, and the semiconductor wafer is then planarized. Optionally, the edges of the active regions are then implanted with dopant.

Abstract:

In some embodiments, an image sensor is provided. The image sensor comprises a plurality of photodiodes arranged as a photodiode array. The photodiodes of the photodiode array are arranged into a first quadrant, a second quadrant, a third quadrant, and a fourth quadrant. A first polarization filter and a first telecentric lens are aligned with the first quadrant. A second polarization filter and a second telecentric lens are aligned with the second quadrant. A third polarization filter and a third telecentric lens are aligned with the third quadrant. A fourth telecentric lens is aligned with the fourth quadrant.

Abstract:

In some embodiments, an imaging system is provided. The imaging system comprises an image sensor, a light source, control circuitry, and function logic. The image sensor comprises a pixel array that includes a plurality of polarization pixel cells and a plurality of time-of-flight pixel cells. The light source is configured to emit light pulses to an object. The control circuitry is coupled to the light source and the pixel array, and is configured to synchronize a timing of the emission of the light pulses with sensing of photons reflected from the object by the plurality of time-of-flight pixel cells to generate depth information. The function logic is configured to determine a set of ambiguous surface normals using signals generated by the plurality of polarization pixel cells, and to disambiguate the set of ambiguous surface normals using the depth information to generate a three-dimensional shape image.

Abstract:

A method for capturing a high-dynamic-range image includes: (i) storing a plurality of pixel values representing a first image captured by an image sensor that includes a pixel array, each pixel value having been generated by a respective pixel of a pixel subarray of the pixel array, each pixel being set to one of Nfirst exposure values, N≥1; (ii) determining an exposure-count Nbased on the plurality of pixel values; (iii) setting each pixel to one of a second plurality of exposure values, Nin number, such that, for each of the second plurality of exposure values, at least one pixel is set to that exposure value, one of the second plurality of exposure values differing from each of the Nfirst exposure values by more than a threshold value; and after setting (iv), capturing a second image with the image sensor.

Abstract:

An image sensor includes a pixel array, and a first, second, and an intermediate memory-element. The memory-elements store, respectively, a first, second, and an intermediate exposure value. The pixel array includes pixel-subarrays each including a rescue pixel and a first, second, and third plurality of contiguous pixels. Each of the first plurality of pixels is connected to the first memory-element and spans diagonally-opposite corners of the pixel-subarray. Each of the second plurality of pixels is connected to the second memory-element and located on a first side of the first plurality of pixels. Each of the third plurality of pixels is connected to the second memory-element and located on a second side of the first plurality of pixels. The rescue-pixel is connected to the intermediate memory-element and is (i) located on one of the first side and the second side and/or (ii) adjacent to one of the first plurality of pixels.
