Abstract:

Disclosed are novel polymers derivatized with at least one âSNO group per 1200 atomic mass unit of the polymer. In one embodiment, the S-nitrosylated polymer has stabilized-S-nitrosyl groups. In another embodiment the S-nitrosylated polymer prepared by polymerizing a compound represented by the following structural formula: R is an organic radical. Each Xâ is an independently chosen aliphatic group or substituted aliphatic group. Preferably, each Xâ is the same and is a C2-C6 alkylene group, more preferablyâCH â, âCH CH â, âCH CH CH â or âCH CH CH CH â. p and m are independently a positive integer such that p+m is greater than two. The polymers of the present invention can be used to coat medical devices to deliver nitric oxide in vivo to treatment sites.

Abstract:

A composite intraluminal prostheses for treating a stenotic region in a blood vessel. The intraluminal prostheses including a thermally expandable stent and an open cell stent cover where the cell size is selected to be small enough to prevent plaque prolapse and the ingrowth of diseased tissue through the openings in the stent, while allowing for the re-endothelialization of the blood vessel wall with healthy tissue. The stent cover is further able to expand and contract with the stent without becoming loose upon contraction and without exerting significant resistence to radial expansion.

Abstract:

An improved balloon catheter which includes bumpers located adjacent to the proximal and distal ends of the catheter balloon. The bumpers form a recessed pocket into which a stent crimped onto the catheter balloon is mounted. The recessed pocket formed by the bumpers securely retains the stent on the balloon and minimizes undesired contact between the stent and arterial walls and lesions during advancement of the stent within a patients vasculature.

Abstract:

A system used in a blood vessel when an interventional procedure is being performed in a stenosed or occluded region, which is capable of enabling a support device and filter supported thereon, to be inserted into the blood vessel and to cross the stenosis therein in a low profile without a sheath extending thereabout. Abstract:

An embolic protection device for use in a blood vessel when an interventional procedure is being performed in a stenosed or occluded region to capture any embolic material which may be created and released into the bloodstream during the procedure. The device includes a filtering assembly having a self-expanding strut assembly and a filter element attached thereto. In one embodiment, the filtering assembly is attached to the distal end of a guide wire and is deployed within the patients vasculature as the guide wire is manipulated into the area of treatment. A restraining sheath placed over the filtering assembly in a coaxial arrangement maintains the filtering assembly in its collapsed position until it is ready to be deployed by the physician. Thereafter, the sheath can be retracted to expose the filtering assembly which will then self-expand within the patients vasculature. Interventional devices can be delivered over the guide wire and any embolic debris created during the interventional procedure and released into the blood stream will enter the filtering assembly and be captured therein.

Abstract:

A device for trapping plaque against the vascular wall includes a tubular-shaped net which is made from a blood-permeable and biocompatable material having expandable members attached to each end of the tubular net. The expandable members are placed in their expanded position within a blood vessel to maintain the tubular net against the area of plaque to be treated with an interventional procedure. A balloon angioplasty procedure or stenting procedure is subsequently performed within the inner lumen formed in the tubular net. Abstract:

A deployment control system provides controlled deployment of an embolic protection device which may include a guide wire, an expandable filter attached to the guide wire near its distal end, and a restraining sheath that maintains the expanded filter in a collapsed position. The deployment control system includes a torque control device which allows the physician to torque the guide wire into the patients anatomy and a mechanism for preventing the guide wire from buckling as the restraining sheath is being retracted to deploy the expandable filter. A recovery control system for recovering the embolic protection device includes an inner catheter which extends within a lumen of an outer recovery sheath in a coaxial arrangement. A distal portion of the inner catheter extends beyond another recovery sheath during advancement of the recovery system into the vasculature. The recovery sheath can be advanced over the inner catheter to collapse the expandable filter.
