Abstract:
A content-aware flow switch intercepts a client content request in an IP network, and transparently directs the content request to a best-fit server. The best-fit server is chosen based on the type of content requested, the quality of service requirements implied by the content request, the degree of load on available servers, network congestion information, and the proximity of the client to available servers. The flow switch detects client-server flows based on the arrival of TCP SYNs and/or HTTP GETs from the client. The flow switch implicitly deduces the quality of service requirements of a flow based on the content of the flow. The flow switch also provides the functionality of multiple physical web servers on a single web server in a way that is transparent to the client, through the use of virtual web hosts and flow pipes.

Abstract:
Method and apparatus for the simultaneous automatic analysis and sequential displaying in digital form of a plurality of parameters of whole or hemolyzed blood samples, such as total hemoglobin, percent oxyhemoglobin, percent carboxyhemoglobin, percent methemoglobin (in each case percent meaning percentage of total hemoglobin) and oxygen content. The apparatus is an electro-optical instrument including a servo-controlled spectral line source, such as a hollow cathode lamp, a laser etc. , a ratiometric logarithmic amplifier of minimized dynamic range, a fluid-flow system of improved design that combine to measure the absorbances of blood samples at a plurality of wavelengths defined and generated by the spectral line source, to calculate the above parameters based on the absorbances by the use of a micro-computer and associated circuitry absorbances, to display automatically and digitally one of the parameters, and then to display digitally seriatim the remaining parameters responsive to operator intervention.

Abstract:
A negative transcription regulatory element (a constitutive suppressor) between residues -250 and -190 of the 5' flanking region of the mouse serglycin gene, a positive (hematopoietic cell enhancer) regulatory element located between residues -118 and -81, an equivalent of the TATA- box and a novel eukaryotic promoter that utilizes such equivalent, vectors containing such elements and hosts transformed therewith, are described. These regulatory elements, vectors and hosts are useful in gene transcription of heterologous genes in eukaryotic cells, and especially in hematopoietic cells. In addition, transcriptional factors that bind to these elements are described.

Abstract:
Compositions and methods for inhibiting a complex containing a mast cell protease are provided. The compositions are useful for treating inflammatory disorders, such as asthma, that are mediated by release of a tryptase-6 protein. Methods for identifying additional specific inhibitors of a complex containing tryptase-6 protein and a serglycin glycosaminoglycan also are provided.
