Abstract:

An aviation vision apparatus. Its purpose assists a pilot's ability to fly an aircraft by providing increased visibility. The apparatus features an uncooled IR sensor for vision enhancement. An integrated window assembly is provided which permits the sensor to obtain its imagery. The apparatus also has an integrated aerodynamic enclosure. The apparatus features electronics responsible for window assembly window control functions and IR sensor control. The apparatus is a single line replaceable unit that receives control commands from the aircraft's head-down display or other control modules. The unit also provides for the video display.

Abstract:

A pyrolyzer and method is provided for devolatizing coal and other volatile materials. The pyrolyzer has a pyrolyzer furnace housing having at least two screws laterally positioned adjacent and overlapping rotatably mounted within the furnace for moving volatile material through the pyrolyzer furnace housing. The screws have hollow drive shafts with a diverter inside for converging heated fluid to heat the volatile material moving through the pyrolyzer furnace housing. A combustion chamber combusts fuel to create heated exhaust gas for directing through the hollow drive shafts to heat the volatile material. The pyrolyzer furnace housing may have a double wall with a cavity between, capable of receiving heated fluid for further heating of volatile material moving through the pyrolyzer furnace housing.

Abstract:

An apparatus and method by which an image is projected to pupils of a viewer. Preferably, the image covers only areas occupied by the pupils and tracks the areas occupied by the pupils such as to provide continuous display of the imagery to a viewer. The method is to dynamically control the direction of light into sub-apertures selected by a tracking device. By imaging selectively into the sub-apertures where the pupils are temporally located instead of imaging into a generally large area, the disclosed apparatus is power efficient and exclusive because the projected images are covert. This method is applicable to most biocular displays, for instance, but not limited to “see through” systems, which overlay imagery over real world scenes and where geometrically precise projection is critical. In one embodiment, the pupil scan apparatus is combined with a retinal scan apparatus to provide security. In this manner, only an authorized user of the apparatus can operate it.

In accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure, a system may include a polarizing beamsplitter for splitting one or more unpolarized rays received from an illumination source into a first polarized component and a second polarized component, the first polarized component and the second polarized component having orthogonal polarizations to each other.
