Abstract:
Absorbent articles such as sanitary napkins, panty liners, adult incontinence devices, and the like, which have flaps are disclosed. The absorbent articles have a deformed hinge that is located between at least a portion of the main body portion of the absorbent article and the flaps, and zones of extensibility for relieving the stresses that develop in the flaps when the flaps are folded down and under a wearers undergarment.

Abstract:
A sanitary napkin which deforms to a convex upwardly shaped cross section. The sanitary napkin has a line of weakness which is symmetric about the longitudinal axis and longitudinally concave towards the lateral centerline. In a preferred embodiment, the line of weakness is discontinuous and comprises discrete sites joining the topsheet and core. The discrete sites may be bilaterally staggered about the line of weakness.

Abstract:
A method and facility for conducting consumer product research, including the steps of configuring a mock environment so as to test a product in a desired context, placing at least one consumer within the mock environment for testing the product, and collecting information during testing of the product. The facility further includes an area for remotely controlling the information collecting means, as well as at least one area for directly observing the mock environment. The mock environment typically simulates one or more rooms in a house, but can be configured to simulate other places where consumer activity takes place such as a store. The facility is also able to be configured for the demographics of a particular consumer panel, hosting a specified event, and testing a prototype device.

Abstract:
An absorbent article for positioning in the crotch area of a garment of a wearer and against or closely adjacent to the body of the wearer for absorbing body fluids. The absorbent article includes a pair of outwardly extending side flaps that are adapted to be folded around the edges of the crotch panel of the garment, and to overlap each other for attachment together to aid in properly positioning and retaining the absorbent article on the wearer's garment. Attachment of the flaps is effected by a fastening system that permits attachment, release, and subsequent reattachment of the flaps to enable the absorbent article to be repositioned by the wearer. The fastening system also enables the article to be folded for convenient carrying and packaging before use, and to be refolded for convenient disposal of the article after use. Optionally, a line of weakness can be provided across at least one of the flaps to facilitate severance of the encircling flap assembly for ease of removal of the article from a panty after use, and extensibility zones can be formed in the flaps to permit lateral extension of the flaps to accommodate a wider crotch panel of the garment and also to accommodate stresses imposed on the flaps during application of the article to the garment and while it is in use.

Abstract:
An absorbent article, such as a sanitary napkin having a body-conforming portion or component that is capable of continuously adusting is provided. The body-conforming component, in one embodiment, is in the form of a resilient insert which has multiple arcuate portions in use. The insert has a central arcuate portion that provides the sanitary napkin with a convex upward shape in use and a pair of lateral arcuate portions that form barriers to the flow of liquid exudates. The multiple arcuate portions can either be pre-formed into the insert, or the insert can be provided in the form of a relatively flat piece that is provided with areas of different stiffness that form arcuate portions during use.

Abstract:
A disposable cover which, when used with an absorbent material, such as a pad of woven cloth, provides an absorbent article, such as a catamenial pad is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the disposable cover comprises a liquid pervious rewet barrier and an anti-stain barrier joined thereto. Preferably, the rewet barrier comprises a material having capillaries which allow bodily liquids to rapidly penetrate therethrough and the anti-stain barrier is provided in two portions, one of which is joined to each longitudinal edge of the fewer barrier. The disposable cover can also be provided with absorbent attachment means for securing the cover to the absorbent material and with garment attachment means for securing the assembly of the disposable cover and the absorbent material to a user's undergarment. Alternative embodiments of the invention can assume a pouch configuration. This alternative configuration is particularly useful if the absorbent material is in a form lacking significant cohesiveness, such as a tow of fibers.
