Apparatus for quickly taking and filtering liquid taken from a body of liquid comprises a bailer for taking and containing a sample of the liquid therein. The bailer has an upper end portion adapted for quickly disconnecting and connecting a liquid pressurizing device including a hand operated fluid pump or regulated tank of compressed gas. A lower end portion of the bailer is provided with a ball or poppet check valve controlling the flow of liquid to and from the bailer by way of an internal opening adapted for quickly connecting and disconnecting a filtering unit to and from the bailer. The filtering unit has a disposable filter element inside of a housing attached to an upper adapter with a liquid passage therein quickly inserted into sealing engagement with the internal opening of the bailer and which opens the ball check valve. A lower end of the filter housing is connected by another adapter into which a flow control valve is quickly connected to and disconnectable from. A tubular needle or tube extends from the lower end of the flow control valve for the purpose of piercing the sealable septum of a vial and directing the filtered liquid into the vial or another suitable container for further analysis.

Abstract:
An automatic call routing system for directing a call to a desired destination. The routing system poses questions to a caller and uses the caller's responses create a query which is used to direct the call to a destination associated with one of a plurality of documents created during a training phase. The documents are created by receiving calls, collecting caller contributions to each call, directing each call to a destination by a human operator, and storing and processing the caller contributions to each call directed to a particular destination. If a caller's responses do not permit a call to be unambiguously routed to a destination, the routing system poses clarifying questions and receives caller responses. The caller responses are used to create a refined query for use in a subsequent attempt to route the call.
Remotely Controlled Sampling Device Having A Vent Passage Connecting An Internal Chamber To The Environment Through An Upper Outlet

Abstract:
A remotely controlled fluid sampling device adapted to take and retrieve samples from any depth or level within a body of fluid comprises an elongated tubular container, the upper outlet end of which is sealingly attached to an end cap. The end cap has a vent passage, a drain passage, a manually operated stop cock for opening and closing off the drain passage, and an eye or hook portion for attaching a support means thereto. A sealed housing is sealingly attached to the opposite inlet end portion of the tubular container and encloses an upper valve chamber with a fluid passage in its outer wall and a lower power chamber separated by an upper end wall in which a valve bore is sealingly engaged by an axially moveable valve stem. The valve stem is connected to the drive shaft of reversible power means sealed within the power chamber and which selectively moves the valve stem into and out of engagement with a valve seat and thereby opens and closes a valve passage therein connected to the internal chamber of the tubular container.

Abstract:
A fluid sample transfer device made of non-toxic inert material and preferably of virgin fluorocarbon material provides a sealed closed system for transferring a sample of the fluid to be analyzed for contaminants into a vial sealed by a self-sealing septum pierced by a pair of hypodermic needles of different length fixed to and extending from a bottom side of a body having a fluid inlet passage and a vent or outlet passage therein. A long needle is connected to the inlet passage and conveys fluid through and out its sharply pointed outlet end situated close to the bottom of a vial being filled therewith and a short hollow needle is connected to the outlet passage and extends to its pointed inlet end situated slightly below the septum of the vial to allow gas above the fluid filling the vial to escape. One embodiment is adapted for sealably connecting the upper portion of the body to a conventional bailer and has a valve for selectively preventing or allowing passage of fluid to the long needle and vial. Another embodiment is adapted to sealably connect the upper portion of the body to a bladder pump and to a filter device and has a valve for selectively preventing or allowing passage of fluid to either the long needle and vial or to the filter device.

Abstract:
A new class of biologically-active copolymers is provided capable of affecting biological systems in many different ways. The biologically-active copolymers of the present invention also have a wide variety of effects on individual cells. The biologically-active copolymers are also effective against certain microorganisms. The biologically active copolymers of the present invention can be administered to animals to provide specific effects on certain microorganisms that reside in the gut of the animal. A preferred use is administering the biologically active copolymers of the present invention to poultry to reduce the number of Salmonella in the poultry gut. Another preferred use is treatment of surfaces to interfere with the adhesion of microorganisms to the surfaces.
Device For Taking, Preserving And Transporting A Fluid Sample For Analysis

Abstract:
A device made of non-contaminating inert material for taking and preserving a fluid sample containing volatile substances for analysis having a tubular body with gas tight valves at opposite end portions which are opened to allow fluid to pass into and out of a chamber and closed to seal off the escape of and preserve a fluid sample therein during transfer to a laboratory for analysis. Opposite end portions of the tubular body are adapted for attachment of a lower one-way inlet check valve unit and an upper outlet extension unit thereto used with a supporting line or rod to lower and raise the device into and out of a body of fluid and thereby take a fluid sample thereof for analysis. Closing of the valves traps fluid and seals off the sample taken into the chamber between the valves and is removed therefrom by piercing a septum located adjacent the chamber and between the valves by suitable means including a hypodermic needle.

Abstract:
A universal sampling device for retrieving samples of high and low viscosity substances at various depths and from specific portions of contained bodies of materials without being completely submerged therein, is disclosed. The sampling device is made of chemically inert material, has manually operable inlet and outlet vent valve means attached to opposite inlet and outlet ends of a relatively long tube into which the sample enters upon opening of the inlet and outlet valve means at the desired point in the substance to be tested. Means are provided for manually closing and opening of the inlet valve means such as pushing and pulling a valve stem by hand into sealingly engagement with an inlet valve body. Another method attaches a valve stem to an adjustable valve control rod extending upwardly through the tube and outlet valve means. Closing of the inlet valve means can be attained by pushing the device and valve stem against a bottom or side wall containing the substance until the inlet valve stem snaps closed prior to withdrawal of the device and sample therein.
Apparatus For Forming Threads And Filaments Of Fluorocarbon Resin And Method Thereof
An apparatus for forming and producing elongated threads or filaments of synthetic material such as fluorocarbon resins which can be used to form yarns utilizes, a turning machine having, a chuck assembly for mounting a billet of the fluorocarbon resin material therein, and a lead screw assembly with a tool holder assembly thereon. The lead screw assembly is disposed to move a cutting tool in the tool holder assembly longitudinally and parallel to the axes of rotation of the billet so that a plurality of cutting edges on the end cutting face of the cutting tool can cut simultaneously from the billet a corresponding plurality of sized, shaped and dimensioned threads or filaments which can be combined and formed into the desired yarn. Means are provided to synchronize the movement of the cutting tool with the rotation of the fluorocarbon resin billet. Additionally, the apparatus and method as above described wherein a plurality of spaced cutting tools are disposed for simultaneous engagement of the billet each adapted to cut threads or filaments therefrom.
