Abstract:

A compact row unit positioning structure includes a gear and mating toothed surface to positively position agricultural row units on an implement. An electric or hydraulic motor may be used to drive the gear and move row units individually or in groups to change row spacings, follow rows or move row units to a maintenance position. In one embodiment, position sensing structure such a row finder or GPS device connected to a controller operates the positioning structure. Automatic on-the-go row alignment may be implemented, and various row spacings, skip-row patterns or repair access positions may be provided either manually or automatically.

A control system for an agricultural implement is disclosed. The control system includes a position sensor configured to measure a depth indication of an actual operating depth of a ground-engaging tool and configured to generate a corresponding position signal. A pressure sensor configured to measure a pressure indication of an actual operating pressure and configured to generate a corresponding pressure signal. An implement control unit configured to receive the position signal and the pressure signal and configured to control an adjustment device so that the depth indication targets a depth set point that is indicative of the pre-selected operating depth provided that the pressure indication is within a pre-selected pressure range.

Abstract:

A drawbar mechanism for coupling an earth-working tool to an agricultural implement is disclosed. The agricultural implement includes a frame and a source of hydraulic pressure. The drawbar mechanism includes an extendable and retractable hydraulic cylinder in fluid communication with the source of hydraulic pressure and having a first end pivotally coupled to the frame and a second end. A drawbar having a first portion pivotally coupled to the frame defines a working range. The drawbar having a second portion coupled to the earth-working tool. The second end of the hydraulic cylinder is pivotally coupled to the drawbar enabling a substantially constant down force throughout the working range of the drawbar.

Abstract:

A control system for an agricultural implement is disclosed. The agricultural implement includes a ground-engaging tool and an adjustment device. The adjustment device is coupled to the ground-engaging tool. The control system includes a location-determining receiver. The location-determining receiver is configured for receiving positioning signals. A correction receiver is in communication with the location-determining receiver and configured for receiving correction signals and determining a corrected geographic location of the ground-engaging tool. A data storage device is configured for storing operating pressure data referenced to geographic location data of the ground-engaging tool. An electronic data processor is in communication with the correction receiver and the data storage device and configured for receiving the corrected geographic location, correlating the corrected geographic location with the operating pressure data, and controlling the adjustment device to provide operating pressure to the ground-engaging tool.

Abstract:

A method of calcining in a fluidized reactor wherein fluid petroleum coke is utilized as the reactor fuel. The method of the present invention utilizes fluid coke as the fuel for a calcining reactor. The fluid coke is introduced into the pneumatic stream with the lime feed material, ahead of the reactor feed header, to achieve an intimate mixing of the fuel and the feed material. This facilitates calcination of the calcium carbonate and results in more efficient utilization of fuel than in methods of the prior art. Advantages of using fluid coke as the fuel include that it is of a size fine enough to provide efficient utilization as a fuel but not so large that inefficient utilization, unstable temperatures, and carry-over into the final product result. Another advantage is that the fluid coke typically contains 5-7% by weight sulphur, a necessary ingredient in proper calcination of calcium carbonate in a fluidized reactor and one that has been required to be added in methods of the prior art.

Abstract:

A residue detection and implement control system and method are disclosed for an agricultural implement. The system includes a source of environment data and image data of an imaged area of a crop field containing residue. The system includes a data store containing a plurality of image processing methods and at least one controller that processes the image data according to one or more image processing instruction sets. The controller selects one or more of the image processing methods based on the environment data, and processes the image data using the selected image processing instruction(s) to determine a value corresponding to residue coverage in the imaged area of the field. The controller adjusts the configuration of the agricultural implement to respond to the amount and type of residue detected.
