Abstract:
Single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) probe-tips for atomic force microscopy (AFM) are realized by direct synthesis of SWNTs on silicon pyramids integrated onto AFM cantilevers. The growth of SWNT tips involves dip coating of silicon pyramids with a liquid phase catalyst followed by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using methane. Van der Waals interactions between the silicon pyramidal surface and the nanotube ensure proper SWNT orientation. Production of large scale arrays of nanotube probe tips using contact printing and controllably shortening nanotubes in an inert discharge are also described.
H2 Diffusion Barrier Formation By Nitrogen Incorporation In Oxide Layer
A dielectric interlayer is formed over a semiconductor substrate comprising at least one active region. The exposed upper surface of the dielectric interlayer is treated with nitrogen to form a nitrided barrier layer thereon. At least one hydrogen-containing dielectric layer is formed over the dielectric interlayer having the nitrided barrier layer thereon. The nitrided barrier layer serves as a barrier to diffusion of hydrogen from the at least one hydrogen-containing dielectric layer into the dielectric interlayer, thereby preventing a decrease in hot carrier injection reliability.
An apparatus for preventing movement of a wheel on a shaft comprises a nut concentrically disposed on the shaft. A spring is disposed on the shaft and is operatively adjacent to the nut such that the spring can be biased towards the wheel. A first clamping ring is concentrically disposed on the wheel, with the first clamping ring being operatively adjacent the spring. A second clamping ring is operatively adjacent to the side of the wheel that is opposite to the first clamping ring, and a raceway is disposed between the shaft and wheel.

Abstract:
Punch-through vias are filled by initially depositing a thin, conformal layer of titanium nitride by chemical vapor deposition to cover an exposed upper surface of a lower metal feature, e. g. portions exposed by penetrating and undercutting an anti-reflective coating. A metal such as tungsten is subsequently deposited to fill the punch-through via. Embodiments include thermal decomposition of an organic-titanium compound, such as tetrakis-dimethylamino titanium, and treating the deposited titanium nitride in an H /N plasma to lower its resistivity. Moreover, the thickness of the anti-reflective coating can be reduced and the process window for etching the via widened.

Abstract:
A self-chargeable pneumatic cylinder comprises a cylinder body, a working piston disposed inside the cylinder body, and a hollow elongate shaft coupled to the working piston and extending outward from the cylinder body. The hollow interior of the shaft contains a pump mechanism for charging the pneumatic cylinder with a gas. The pump mechanism comprises a pumping piston that is axially slidable within the interior of the shaft and a pumping rod coupled to the pumping piston that is extendable out of the shaft for facilitating actuation of the pump. As the pump is manually actuated, pressurized gas flows into the cylinder body across a one-way valve to charge the pneumatic cylinder as desired.

Abstract:
Methods and structures are provided for extremely flat wafer chucks, allowing close thermal contact uniformly across a semiconductor processing substrate. An upper and a lower section are tightly fit to one another with flat inner surfaces in face-to-face contact. The sections also define at least one groove therebetween. The two sections have asymmetrical thickness, but the groove defined therebetween is correspondingly asymmetrical such that the groove is centered in the assembled chuck. A heater element, such as a resistive heater, is placed within the groove with some clearance prior to assembling the upper and lower sections. After assembly and tightening, the chuck is thermally cycled above the normal operating temperature prior to secondary machining, thus assuring flatness that is maintained during high temperature operation.

Abstract:
A system and method for reducing blade strain on the fan blades of an air cycle machine is proposed. The method involves a strut arrangement that is positioned in a cylindrical air passage upstream from the fan assembly. The strut arrangement includes at least three struts, wherein the at least three struts are separated by unequal degrees of separation along the circumference of the air passage. The strut arrangement effectively reduces the strain on the blades of the fan assembly.

Abstract:
A pogo stick comprising a handlebar, a grip portion, and a footrest that is collapsible into a small volume for easy transportation and compact storage. The handlebar is provided with at least one elongate telescoping member, the grip portion is provided with removable grips, and the footrest is provided with pivotally mounted plates. The collapsible pogo stick incorporates a pneumatic spring of variable stiffness for accommodating users of different body weights. The pneumatic spring includes a pressure cylinder and a shaft extending out of the cylinder for engagement with the ground. The pneumatic spring includes a self-charging mechanism such that the cylinder may be charged without the use of an external pump.
