A programmable frequency synthesizer including a voltage-controlled oscillator, a regenerative frequency divider and a programmable integer divider, that provides wideband frequency coverage from a single narrowband oscillator. The voltage-controlled oscillator may generate a first signal having a first frequency. The regenerative frequency divider is coupled to the voltage-controlled oscillator and receives the first signal and performs a fractional multiplication of the first frequency of the first signal to provide a second signal a having a second frequency. The programmable integer divider is coupled to the regenerative frequency divider, and receives the second signal and divides the second frequency by a predetermined integer to provide a third signal having a third frequency.

Abstract:
The present invention is based, in part, on the unexpected discovery that particles for pulmonary delivery of a therapeutic, prophylactic or diagnostic agent that comprise a phospholipid and a sufficient amount of leucine can produce sustained effect of the agent. Specifically, particles for pulmonary delivery of a therapeutic, prophylactic or diagnostic agent that contain a phospholipid or combination of phospholipids, wherein the phospholipid or combination of phospholipids is present in the particles in an amount of about 1 to 46 weight percent; and leucine, wherein leucine is present in the particles in an amount of at least 46 weight percent, can contribute to sustained effect of the agent. Particles that comprise at least 46 weight percent leucine but that do not contain phospholipids do not exhibit these same sustained effect properties.

Abstract:
Formulations have been developed for pulmonary delivery to treat or reduce the infectivity of diseases such as viral infections, especially tuberculosis, SARS, influenza and respiratory synticial virus in humans and hoof and mouth disease in animals, or to reduce the symptoms of allergy or other pulmonary disease. Formulations for pulmonary administration include a material that significantly alters physical properties such as surface tension and surface elasticity of lung mucus lining fluid, which may be isotonic saline and, optionally, a carrier. The formulation may be administered as a liquid solution, suspension, aerosol, or powder where the particles consist basically of an osmotically active solute. Drugs, especially antivirals or antibiotics, may optionally be included with the formulation. These may be administered with or incorporated into the formulation.

Methods and devices to determine rate of particle production and the size range for the particles produced for an individual are described herein. The device () contains a mouthpiece (), a filter (), a low resistance one-way valve (), a particle counter () and a computer (). Optionally, the device also contains a gas flow meter (). The data obtained using the device can be used to determine if a formulation for reducing particle exhalation should be administered to an individual.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for treating a disease characterized by a constrictive airway comprising administering to a patient in need thereof via inhalation a pharmaceutical composition comprising trospium, wherein said patient achieves an effective therapy for at least 10 hours. The trospium composition is preferably a particulate formulation useful for administration via a dry powder inhaler. In a preferred embodiment, the composition further comprises a second active agent, such as a beta-2 agonist. A particularly preferred second active agent is formoterol, wherein the trospium, formoterol composition is manufactured by spray drying a mixture comprising trospium and formoterol.
