Abstract:

Methods and systems for integrated belt tensioning devices are provided. One exemplary device includes a pulley, a biasing member, and an indicator. The biasing member (e.g., a spring or the like) is adapted to bias the pulley to a biased position. The indicator is associated with the position of the pulley and varies according to the relative position of the pulley to the biased position. Tension from a belt acting on the pulley displaces the pulley away from the biased position, against the biasing force. The indicator varies according to the relative position of the pulley from the biased position and may thereby be correlated to tension in the belt. The belt tensioning device may be used with automated storage libraries, e.g., a cross-link mechanism or the like.

Storage systems for use with data storage devices (including cartridges) may include a track connecting a plurality storage libraries and a transporter for transferring a cartridge within and between the storage libraries. The track may comprise a cam pathway, and the transporter may comprise a shuttle for holding a cartridge and a cam follower for following the cam pathway. Thus, as the transporter is moved along the track, the position of the transporter's shuttle may correspond to the position of the cam follower as it follows the cam pathway. A cable retractor assembly which utilizes a rotatable spool assembly for taking up slack in a cable connected between a mobile member and a stationary base member. The present invention makes use of a cable assembly which has first and second portions which are wound onto or unwound from the spool assembly at the same time to maintain a continuous cable connection between the members while avoiding loose cable in the open. Abstract:

A tape cassette handling and sequencing system includes a large storage library having a plurality of storage bins and a cassette loading section for receiving cassettes to be stored in the storage bins. Tape transports are provided for playing cassettes stored in the library. A manipulator assembly moves cassettes between the loading section, storage bins and tape transports. The design facilitates the automatic sequencing of a large number of cassettes thus freeing an operator for other tasks.
