Abstract:

An apparatus for controlling discharge of commodity from a railcar hopper car having a centersill and two laterally spaced door assemblies arranged in registry with two transversely spaced discharge openings on a hopper of the car is disclosed. The doors of the discharge door assemblies are joined to each other by an elongated connector such that they move in unison. The apparatus includes an operating shaft rotatable about a fixed axis extending transverse to and vertically beneath the railcar centersill. A linkage system operably connects the operating shaft to the elongated connector to simultaneously push the door assemblies into their closed position in response to rotation of the operating shaft in a first direction and pulls the door assemblies from their closed position in response to rotation of the operating shaft in a reverse or second direction.

Abstract:

A threaded fastener comprises a first, primary thread lead, and a pair of second, auxiliary thread leads alternatively interposed between successive threads of the first, primary thread lead, except within the vicinity of the tip portion of the fastener so as to define space for accommodating debris generated during the self-tapping of the fastener into a workpiece. The fastener also comprises lobe members formed upon the primary thread lead so as to predeterminedly affect torque insertion and pull-out resistance values.

Abstract:

A new and improved threaded fastener comprises a first, primary thread lead, and a pair of second, auxiliary thread leads alternatively interposed between successive threads of the first, primary thread lead. The threaded fastener further comprises a pointed tip portion for initiating driving insertion of the threaded fastener into an underlying workpiece, and that portion of the dual reinforcing lead, which has previously been interposed between the tip portion and the primary thread lead, or between the first and second successive threads of the first primary thread lead, has been removed. In this manner, a circumferentially extending space has effectively been created for permitting chips or debris, normally generated during the self-tapping of the threaded fastener into a bore previously pre-drilled within the underlying workpiece, to be temporarily accumulated within such circumferential space whereby such chips or debris can subsequently be automatically discharged from such space into the depths of the pre-drilled bore as the threaded insertion of the threaded fastener into the pre-drilled bore of the workpiece proceeds. This structure reduces torque insertion levels and permits enhanced depth penetration of the threaded fastener into the workpiece.

Abstract:

An insulation plate has a lower height profile, a smaller thickness dimension, and a smaller transverse extent than those of conventional insulation plates so as to effectively reduce the material costs and weight of each insulation plate. In addition, the insulation plate is provided with an increased number of concentric rib members, as compared to conventional insulation plates, whereby the insulation plate is characterized by enhanced rigidity such that the insulation substrate does not achieve pullover with respect to the insulation plate, and wherein further, the radially innermost rib member structurally cooperates with the centrally apertured recessed portion of the insulation plate in order to provide the same with enhanced strength characteristics in order to resist fastener pull-through.

Abstract:

A discharge door assembly for a bottom dump covered railroad hopper car is provided. The discharge door assembly includes a plurality of longitudinally mounted discharge doors arranged in end-to-end relation across a bottom of the hopper car; with each discharge door being movable between open and closed positions about a pivot axis disposed parallel to and adjacent a longitudinal axis of the hopper car. A door operating mechanism including a single powered actuator operates all of the discharge doors substantially simultaneously to effect rapid discharge of matter from the hopper with significantly less operator involvement. The door operating mechanism further includes a lock for releasably holding the discharge doors in a closed position. A venting system inhibits imploding of the walls of the hopper car upon discharge of particulate matter from the car. Deflectors are arranged on opposite sides of the hopper car to combine with the pivoted discharge doors in limiting the discharge pattern of material from the hopper car to a relatively narrow pattern or stream disposed between the rails on which the hopper car moves.
