Abstract:

In seismic survey for icy waters, streamers are towed behind a vessel under the water's surface to avoid ice. GPS readings may not be consistently obtained because the ice prevents a tail buoy with a GPS receiver from trailing from streamer at the surface. Instead, a device tows on the streamer under the water's surface. The streamer's absolute position is tracked by intermittently bringing the towed device toward the surface so GPS readings can be obtained. The streamer's absolute position can then be used in conjunction with compass readings and can correlate various seismic sensor signals obtained along the streamer during the survey. The compass readings can be corrected for declination using declinometer readings, which can be compensated for iron effects from the vessel or other device carrying the declinometer.

Abstract:

In a two tube cutting torch having a torch head and a body with a first cutting oxygen tube supplying oxygen from the body to the head and a second preheat tube supplying oxygen and fuel from the body to the head in which the body has a fuel inlet and an oxygen inlet and control means connected to the body for controlling the flow of fuel and oxygen, the improvement of a head mixer and thermal conductor. A member is connected between the preheat tube and the head and the member includes a straight through bore interconnecting the preheat tube and the head and the bore at the tube end is in communication with oxygen in the preheat tube. The member also includes one or more passageways extending from the tube end and is in communication with fuel in the preheat tube. The member includes one or more holes adjacent the head end extending from the bore to the passageways for aspirating fuel from the passageways into the bore and mixing in the head as oxygen flows through the bore to the head. A plurality of thermal ribs are provided about the exterior of the body for dissipating heat from the member.

Abstract:

A multiple piece cutting tip for a cutting torch. An outer body with an inner body coaxially positioned therein forms a first passageway therebetween for transmitting preheat fuel and oxygen. A helical mixer in the first passageway more completely mixes the fuel and the oxygen. The first passageway includes a plurality of openings about the inner body at the tip end of the first passageway for preheating. The inner body includes a second passageway therethrough for the passage of cutting oxygen and the inner body includes a connection for changing the cross-sectional area of the second passageway. Radially extending ribs are provided about the outside of the outer body adjacent the tip for dissipating heat. The size of the second passageway may be modified by an elongate tubular member adapted to be threaded into the inner body and telescopically extend into the second passageway for changing the size of the second passageway.

Abstract:

In a cutting torch having a torch head, a body having a fuel inlet and an oxygen inlet, control means connected to the body for controlling the flow of fuel and oxygen, a preheat tube assembly and a cutting oxygen tube assembly connected between the body and the head, the improvement in the preheat tube assembly for preventing flashback. An inner tubular member, preferably of brass, has a straight through bore with a fluid tight seal at the torch head by being threaded into the torch head and sealed with an O-ring seal. The opposite end connects to the body having a seal making a gas tight connection around a fuel passageway. The inner bore acts as an oxygen mixing chamber with no restrictions or orifices and consists of a single size diameter hole lengthwise through the member. Intermediate of the member is a plurality of spaced holes drilled through the member between the fuel passageway and the oxygen bore to allow the flow of fuel to be aspirated into the inner oxygen mixing chamber bore and carried to the torch head.
