    Current apparatuses and methods for analysis of spectroscopic optical coherence tomography (SOCT) signals suffer from an inherent tradeoff between time (depth) and frequency (wavelength) resolution. In one non-limiting embodiment, multiple or dual window (DW) apparatuses and methods for reconstructing time-frequency distributions (TFDs) that applies two windows that independently determine the optical and temporal resolution is provided. For example, optical resolution may relate to scattering information about a sample, and temporal resolution may be related to absorption or depth related information. The effectiveness of the apparatuses and methods is demonstrated in simulations and in processing of measured OCT signals that contain fields which vary in time and frequency. The DW technique may yield TFDs that maintain high spectral and temporal resolution and are free from the artifacts and limitations commonly observed with other processing methods.

    Disclosed is a system for translating tracks of magnetically encoded data on a flexible medium into corresponding visually readable characters. The system comprises a drum of generally cylindrical shape mounted for rotation about an axis. The medium is affixed to an exterior surface of the drum with the magnetically encoded side facing outwardly and is oriented such that the data tracks are substantially perpendicularly aligned with the drum axis. A magnetic read head is mounted to contact the medium surface and is stepped in directions parallel to the drum axis. The drum is designed to provide a zone substantially perpendicular to the areas of rotation where the head does not contact and therefore does not read the medium. Means are provided on the drum so that the head is stepped to a different track when the zone is opposite the head. The electrical outputs of the read head are utilized in the printing out of corresponding visually readable characters on another medium.

    The present invention is a process for purifying polydextrose to remove manufacturing contaminants such as glucose, sorbitol, citric acid, oligomers, 1,6-anhydroglucose, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and other low molecular weight constituents by reverse osmosis wherein an aqueous solution of polydextrose is filtered by pressing it tangentially over a porous membrane at high pressure. This invention process produces a purified polydextrose with the 1,6-anhydroglucose content therein reduced to less than about 0. 2% (W/W) and a reduction in the 5-hydroxymethylfurfural content to below detectable levels or loss than about 0. 01% (W/W), thereby virtually eliminating any bitter taste or musty off-flavor.
