Abstract:A telecommunication element having a durable color identifying polymeric coating thereon is disclosed. The telecommunication element comprises an elongated communication transmission medium, such as an optical fiber or an optical fiber ribbon, and a radiation cured polymeric coating having an identifying color applied on at least a portion of the transmission medium. The identifying color in the polymeric coating is provided by chromophore molecules that are covalently bonded thereto. Coating compositions and a method are also disclosed.

Abstract:A detectable pavement warning assembly includes a web having a plurality of projections attached to one another by linear connectors, a planar cover with a series of apertures for receiving the projections therethrough and an adhesive sheet. In use a rigid substrate such as a sidewalk is selected, and a primer is applied. The web, cover and adhesive sheet all pre-assembled are placed on the primed substrate. Next, the warning assembly is heated with an open flame to soften and fuse the pavement warning assembly with the primed substrate. The projections will remain extended sufficiently above the cover to provide a warning to pedestrians that walk thereon, such as when approaching a traffic area or other hazard.

Abstract:The present invention relates to a system, method, and composition for a thermochromatic, color indicative sheet or device that is bonded to an article such as a concrete or asphalt surface, a traffic sign, a plate of a guidepost and on which is indicated a surface temperature near or below the freezing point of water. The invention can also utilize an adhesive system including a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) and/or thermal sensitive adhesive sheet for adhering sheets of preformed thermoplastic with the thermochromatic color indicative sheet to concrete, asphalt, wood or composite material surfaces. The invention includes methods of applying the product allowing for immediate use in a traffic area upon completion of the application to any appropriate outdoor surface.

Abstract:The invention herein pertains to pavement marking patterns and the application thereof to roads, streets, walkways and the like. Various pattern designs for the markings are available to replicate layers of bricks, cobblestones, horizontal signage, logos and other components. The marking patterns are composed of two or more independent sections, the first section is a grid representing for example, the mortar joints in a brick wall. The second sections or inserts, for example represent bricks which are contained within the grid. As the first and second sections are generally formed from different colored, preferably thermoplastic materials, a hot melt adhesive spray is utilized on the bottom surface of the marking pattern to bridge the intersections between the first and second sections to maintain the integrity of the marking pattern for convenience during handling and application to a substrate. Preferably the hot melt spray adhesive has approximately the same softening point range as the pattern sections to accommodate heat treatment of the marking pattern during application of the marking pattern to the substrate.

Abstract:Disclosed is an alkyd resin-based pre-manufactured thermoplastic airport runway signage that is applied in relatively large sections onto an airport runway. The pre-manufactured preformed thermoplastic formed as a continuous sheet and wound onto a take-up spool. The runway surface is prepared with a CCS epoxy primer and the preformed thermoplastic is unwound from the take-up spool and positioned onto the runway surface. When the pre-manufactured thermoplastic signage is in a desired location it is initially rolled conforming to the runway surface. Heat is applied to the rolled surface to a preferred temperature with an infra-red (IR) heater to melt and adhere the pre-manufactured thermoplastic signage into the runway surface.

Abstract:The present disclosure relates to a system and permanent pavement marker for coating or bonding or both coating and bonding a first underlying substrate, wherein a second layer comprises a polyurea epoxy curable composition of about 200 centipoise which is bonded to the first underlying substrate, wherein the curable composition second layer is further bonded to a third layer, wherein the third layer comprises an epoxy bonder paste in a range of 10,000 to 300,000 centipoise, and the third layer is further bonded to a fourth layer, wherein the fourth layer is a preformed thermoplastic marking tile that is applied over the third layer of epoxy bonder paste, thereby forming a the permanent pavement marking. The system and pavement marker may also include a thermoplastic adhesive applied between the epoxy bonder paste and the preformed thermoplastic marking tile such that the bonder paste acts as a water vapor barrier reducing the rate of water vapor transmission into the marking tile.
