Abstract:

A structure and method is provided for absorbing excess fat from an environment including one or more fats insolubly combined in an aqueous solution mix. The structure includes a plurality of layers, at least one of which is formed from a preferentially fat-permeable, oleophilic material having a greater affinity for fat than for the aqueous solution. Preferably, the structure includes particular structural and topographic components that effectively enhance the inherent fat-affinity of the oleophilic material. The absorption structure is easily employed by introducing it into an environment such as a soup, broth, etc. , having fat residing in an aqueous solution. The structure acts to attract and absorb at least a portion of the fat which can then be extracted from the solution. A process for forming the multi-layer absorption structure is also provided.

A hot gas defrost type refrigeration system in which refrigerant used to defrost is returned to the system's refrigerant circuit after being collected and reduced in pressure, as by expansion valve means, to a pressure below the pressure in the system's return suction header, then heated as by means involving heat exchange with the system's high pressure refrigerant, the refrigerant used to defrost thus being in a superheated gaseous state and returned to the system's return suction header in such state without risk of introduction of liquid refrigerant to the system's compressor(s).

Abstract:

An aircraft vertical fin-fuselage structural integration system wherein a plurality of vertical tail fin spars, extending transversely across the fin and fuselage and substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the fin, are integrally connected directly to the fuselage pressure bulkhead so as to directly transmit or transfer the vertical fin and horizontal stabilizer empennage loads to the fuselage structural network. The system can be adapted to any type of aircraft, and in the case of an aircraft of the BOEING 727 class, the spars accommodate the air intake S-duct operatively associated with the craft's rear engine housed within the rearwardmost portion of the fuselage. The spars also have their lateral configurations fabricated so as to match the fuselage loft lines.
