The indictment alleges that on April 8, 2011, while DEI employees were engaged in the unpermitted treatment of hazardous wastes, an explosion occurred at DEIs Waikele bunker killing DEI employees Bryan Cabalce, Robert Freeman, Robert Leahey, Justin Kelii and Neil Sprankle.
The workers killed in the blast have been identified by family and friends as Bryan "Keola" Cabalce, 25, of Wahiawa; Kevin Freeman, 24, of Aiea; Justin Kelii, 29, of Kaneohe; Robert Leahey, 50, brother of sportscaster Jim Leahey; and Neil Sprankle, 24, of Aiea.
The Honolulu Department of the Medical Examiner said it did not expect to release victims' names until Monday, but at least two of the victims have been identified by family members as Robert Leahey, 50, and Justin Kelii, 29.
