Abstract:
An electrostatic method for increasing the transfer efficiency of spray finishing using lower voltages than are normally required and used with electrostatic spraying. The positioning and construction of ground electrodes ( ) behind the air cap ( ) helps ensure a clean operation.

Abstract:
Sensors (and ) and an interactive display () are added to an airless gas powered line striping machine () to provide the operator with a variety of information about the operating parameters. In addition to the pressure sensor/transducer () required to control the pressure through a clutch, the system includes a sensor (reed switch in the preferred embodiment) () to count pump strokes or drive revolutions, a sensor () to monitor when the gun trigger is activated and a sensor () to monitor wheel rotation (hall effect sensor detecting pulses from gear mounted on wheel in the preferred embodiment). A digital display () is included to read out measured and calculated values.

Abstract:
There are several components on the convertible gas/electric sprayer () that facilitate the easy electric motor/gas engine conversion and positioning of the pulley () to the drive belt () for loading and unloading. The pulley for the gas engine and the pulley for the electric motor have two features that help guide the drive belt () onto the pulley (). The lead in angle (A) on the front of the pulley () helps the belt () over the front of the pulley (). The backstop lip (C) on the rear of the pulleys prevents the belt () from overshooting the V-groove (D). The fingers (A) on the upper portion of the bracket hold the belt on the upper drive pulley during conversion and shape the belt to accept the drive pulley, and the rib (B) on the bracket holds the belt in position to accept the pulley during loading.
In an electric airless sprayer (), as the motor () temperature approaches allowable limits, several performance cutbacks can be used to prevent overheating. The preferred method is to gradually reduce the controlled pressure. If the temperature continues to rise, the control () switches to on/off or deadband control. If the temperature continues to rise in spite of these measures, the control () shuts the unit down.

Abstract:
An electrostatic spray gun having an internal alternator-turbine power supply is provided with an air circuit which divides the air passages to the front end of the gun on one hand and to the power supply in the other hand at the trigger valve to prevent paint or solvent leakage into the power supply. The power supply is completely encapsulated or potted such that the only parts of the power supply extending through the containment are heat sinks, electrical connectors and a voltage indicator. Lastly, as C-clip is provided to attach the turbine alternator to the rest of the power supply which utilizes an interior groove on the alternator turbine and an exterior groove on the main body of the power supply.

Abstract:
A spray gun is designed for mounting on the end of a robot arm. The construction of the gun is provided such that nearly all of the main components with the exception of the spray head itself are located in a main body to which is mounted a pivotal spray head assembly which may pivot approximately 90. degree. to either side of the normal straight-ahead position. The power supply and power generating units are located in the main body. The electrostatic power supply connection to the spray head enters the spray head shaft on the opposite side from the fluid supply entry. The fluid control valve may be located in the spray head shaft.
A fluid stud and resistor design for electrostatic spray guns has a fluid passage which is shaped like a cloverleaf in cross section. By providing this cross-sectional shape, the resistor is allowed to reside in one wall of the fluid stud and run, nearly, the complete length of the stud, thereby providing an increased effective resistor length, thus reducing flash-over and providing a smaller contact wire, thereby reducing capacitance. The design of the fluid needle and electrode is provided so as to reduce the length of the electrode wire, thereby reducing capacitance and allowing an increased diameter wire for increased durability.

Abstract:
A device and method of determining the voltage and current existing at the electrostatic electrode in a electrostatic spray gun, the spray gun containing a self-contained power supply including a turbine generator operating the air supplied to the gun, the power supply producing a low voltage d. c. , and a voltage multiplier changing the voltage to a high potential which is applied to the electrode of the spray gun, a sensing and measuring circuit for determining the return current or ground current from the electrode to the power supply and producing a voltage directly related to the ground current and producing a voltage signal which may be measured directly to indicate the ground current; a circuit establishing a base voltage from the power supply for comparison against the ground current voltage signal and obtaining a differential voltage which may be measured and which is directly proportional to the electrode voltage.

We are dealing with scales of declining economic activity that nobody has seen before. The potential hit to GDP in the second quarter this year will probably far exceed what we saw at the worst point of the financial crisis, Capital Groups economist Robert Lind said in a note.
