Abstract:

A combination sun-moon filter employs a first filter that is mounted at the front of the telescope and a second that is mounted in the telescope near the eyepiece. Each filter transmits approximately one percent of the light that strikes it, and both filters together reduce the amount of light leaving the viewing opening of the telescope to a value low enough for comfortable solar viewing. To convert to lunar viewing, it is only necessary to remove the front filter, and the remaining filter reduces light intensity enough for comfortable viewing of a bright moon.

Abstract:

An exposure delay mechanism is initially actuatable to release the reflex mirror of a reflex camera to its film exposing position and to block movement of the shutter. The operator may wait for any desired time interval before actuating the exposure delay mechanism to release the camera operating mechanism to operate the shutter and expose the film. In this manner, the operator may wait until after shock vibrations caused by movement of the reflex mirror have subsided and for any other desired interval before exposing the film. The delay mechanism utilizes a member such as a flexible cable which is movable selectively into and out of the path of movement of a component of the camera operating mechanism which is operative to open the camera shutter after movement of the reflex mirror.

Abstract:

An adjustable exposure control adapter for cameras is described which includes a light producing source, such as a LED, which is mountable in juxtaposition to a photo cell forming part of the automatic exposure system of the camera. A hand unit, connected to the light source, includes a battery, a potentiometer and a series of switches. One switch is connected to the photo release mechanism of the camera while another switch, when closed, permits maximum current to flow through the light source to produce the maximum brightness which almost instantaneously closes the shutter. Another switch, when closed and the potentiometer has been set to a predetermined value, causes a current to flow through the light source which is less than the maximum with corresponding less light being emitted by the source. The light produced by the light source, being the only source of light for the photo cell of the camera automatic exposure system, automatically results in the appropriate exposure time to correspond to the preselected potentiometer setting. The exposure control adapter is particularly useful for astro-photography as well as micro-photography and in instances where the ambient light conditions do not produce the desired exposure times when only the camera's automatic exposure system is used.

Abstract:

An adjustable solar filter assembly has two disc shaped relatively rotatable shields each having circumferentially spaced apart light passing openings separated by opaque portions. A filter element comprising an alumnized plastic sheet covers the openings in one of the shields. Relative rotation of the two discs changes the effective light passing area without changing the optical aperture provided by the filter to adjust for changing light conditions and/or to adjust the brightness of the viewed image. The filter assembly includes support and mounting members that enable the filter assembly to be mounted near the center of the exterior lens of the telescope.
