Abstract:
The instant invention is directed to novel mold release agents for polyurethane resins and to the use thereof, particularly in the closed mold forming of polyurethane foams. The mold release agents disclosed herein are applied to the surface of the mold prior to molding and broadly comprise talc dispersed in an emulsion of water and an organic solvent.

Abstract:
The present invention is directed to polyurethane moldings produced via the RIM process. These polyurethane moldings have excellent reactivity, demold properties (at a 30 s demold), and good elongation and tear strength, and comprise the reaction product of an aliphatic polyisocyanate having a viscosity of less than about 20,000 mPa. multidot. s at 25. degree. C. and a NCO functionality of 2. 3 to 4. 0 with an isocyanatereactive component comprising b1) a relatively high molecular weight organic compound containing at least one of the groups selected from the group consisting of hydroxy groups and amine groups; and b2) a low molecular weight chain extender selected from the group consisting of diols, triols, primary amines, secondary amines, aminoalcohols, and mixtures thereof; in the presence of a catalyst. The OH:NH ratio of the chain extender is from 1:1 to 25:1.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for preparing polyurea-polyurethane elastomers comprising reacting in a closed mold, in accordance with the reaction injection molding technique at an isocyanate index of about 95 to about 110, an isocyanate prepolymer having an isocyanate content of about 5 wt. % to 10 wt. % and a molecular weight range of about 1000 to 4000 with a diamine chain extender having no isocyanate-reactive groups other than amino groups in the substantial absence of compounds having isocyanate-reactive groups other than amino groups. The present invention further relates to the polyureapolyurethane elastomers produced by the process of this invention.

Abstract:
The instant invention is directed to a process for the production of microcellular elastomeric moldings comprising: (A) introducing a reaction mixture into a closed mold, said reaction mixture comprising: (i) an organic polyisocyanate, (ii) a hydroxyl group containing compound having a molecular weight of from 1800 to 12,000, (iii) a catalyst for the reaction between hydroxyl groups and isocyanate groups, (iv) an active aromatic diamine having at least one alkyl substituent in the orthoposition to a first amino group and two alkyl substituents in ortho-position to a second group, and (v) air and/or nitrogen dissolved under pressure in any one or more of Components (i), (ii), (iii) or (iv), (B) allowing said reaction mixture to react in said mold and (C) removing the resultant product from said mold, the improvement wherein in any of Components (i), (ii), (iii) or (iv) which does contain said air and/or nitrogen dissolved therein there is included an inorganic, finely divided, nitrogen adsorbing agent in an amount sufficient to accelerate the transition of the air and/or nitrogen from the dissolved state to the dispersed state upon release of the pressure (i. e. , as the liquid reacting mixture flows into the mold). It is this dispersed state which allows for adequate blowing during the process.

Abstract:
Homogeneous storable mixtures containing small quantities of a potassium halide, having a high mixed hydroxyl number or mixed hydroxyl/amine number and an average functionality of at least 2. 0 are made by mixing (a) a polyoxyalkylene polyol and/or polyolamine and/or polyamine based on an alkyloxirane having a molecular weight of from 400 to 12,000 and (b) a low molecular weight polyol which is not completely miscible with (a) wherein these mixtures are reacted with a prepolymer or a polyisocyanate to produce shrink stable thermal break urethanes having good adhesion to substrate properties and wherein the use of such mixtures increases processing flexibility without detrimentally affecting the physical properties of the thermal break urethanes produced.
