Abstract:

A turbine nozzle includes a row of vanes extending radially in span between inner and outer bands. The vanes include opposite pressure and suction sidewalls and opposite leading and trailing edges. Each vane includes an inner pattern of inner cooling holes and an outer pattern of outer cooling holes distributed along the leading edge. The inner and outer holes diverge toward the corresponding inner and outer bands to preferentially discharge cooling air.

Abstract:

A method of fabricating a rotor blade is provided. The method includes forming at least one passageway within the rotor blade, wherein the passageway extends substantially radially from a root of the rotor blade to a tip of the rotor blade, and coupling a shroud to the tip of the rotor blade. The shroud includes at least one substantially radially-outward extending wall that at least partially defines an outer plenum that is radially outward from at least the shroud, wherein the outer plenum is in flow communication with the passageway.

Abstract:

A power management system and method including a normally-open switch, an on/off circuit, a microprocessor, and at least one sensor to monitor a condition. The on/off circuit includes an on/off control gate-controlled switch device such as a PMOS device for system power, a flip/flop switch to respectively activate and deactivate the on/off control PMOS device, and a transition detection circuit connected to the normally-open switch. A single DC power source establishes a source voltage to power the on/off circuit and the normally-open switch. The transition detection circuit generates an “on” signal when the user initially activates the normally-open switch, and supplies the “on” signal to the flip/flop switch to change it to an “on” state to activate the on/off control PMOS device. While activated, the on/off control PMOS device enables system power from the power source to be provided to at least the sensor and the microprocessor. The microprocessor generates an “off” signal when the normally-open switch is activated for at least a selected period of time, and supplies the “off” signal to the flip/flop switch to change it to an “off” state to deactivate the on/off control PMOS device and thereby disable system power to at least the sensor and the microprocessor.

Abstract:

A turbine engine, such as a gas turbine engine for an aircraft, can include a compressor section, a combustion section, and a turbine section in axial arrangement. The compressor and turbine sections can include a rotating disk having a plurality of blades and a stationary band having a plurality of stationary vanes. The disk and band are spaced axially defining a buffer cavity. One or more extensions extend into the buffer cavity to prevent ingestion of heated gas into the buffer cavity. Recesses on the underside of the extensions can improve the heat transfer coefficient for the extensions.
