Galactosylated hydroxyalkyl polysaccharides wherein galactose moieties are bound to the hydroxyalkyl polysaccharide by galactosidic bonds, and a process for preparing the galactosylated hydroxyalkyl polysaccharides having the steps: a) providing at least one hydroxyalkyl polysaccharide; and b) treating said hydroxyalkyl polysaccharide with a galactose donor in the presence of galactosidase enzyme for a time sufficient to convert at least a portion of said hydroxyl groups to galactosides.
Acetoacetylated Saccharides And Process Of Making The Same
A product of acetoacetylated saccharide and the process of making such a product. The process is enzymatic where an enzyme is used as a catalyst for the reaction. The enzymatic process provides better yields and milder process conditions compared to other chemical synthesis process without any enzyme.

Abstract:
A novel phosphated, oxidized starch having a molecular weight of about 1,500 to about 40,000 Daltons, a carboxyl degree of substitution of 0. 30 to 0. 96, and a phosphate degree of substitution of from about 0. 002 to about 0. 005, which is useful as a dispersant for aqueous, high-solid slurries of minerals and inorganic pigments, as a replacement for gum arabic in gumming and fountain solutions for lithography, and as a drilling fluid additive.

Abstract:
Amine modified pectins wherein the amine is a water soluble amine, amino acid, etc. and process to catalyze the reaction of water soluble polymers having alkoxyester and carboxylic acid functionality, such as polysaccharides, with a primary or secondary amine in the presence of a protease and water.
Biostable Compositions And The Aqueous Solutions Thereof As Thickeners For Aqueous-Based Systems
Disclosed is an essentially water-free biostable composition comprising at least one anionic water-soluble polymer containing carboxylate or sulfonate groups and small amounts of at least one cationic quaternary ammonium salt surfactant in a ratio, expressed as moles surfactant divided by mole equivalents of carboxylate or sulfonate groups in the polymer, of from about 0. 025 to about 2. 0 is provided, which is capable of forming highly viscoelastic solutions when mixed in an aqueous medium. By altering the ratio of cationic surfactant to anionic polymer within the specific ratio range, the viscosity of the aqueous solutions of the composition can be adjusted to a desired level. The aqueous solutions thereof are useful as thickeners in aqueous-based systems, such as latex paints and shampoos.
