Abstract:

A probe drive system of a precision liquid handler sequentially inserts probe tips of a multiple probe array into a locator well at a known position on a locator bed. The position of each probe tip is determined by driving the probe tip into contact with points on the side wall of the locator well and sensing the contracts. The positions of the probe tips are mapped and checked for skew of the probe array. The probe tip positions are overlaid to determine probe tip scatter. If a probe tip is excessively misaligned, it is inserted into the locator well and driven against the side wall to bend the probe and reduce the misalignment of the probe tip. The center of the probe tip scatter is determined and is used by the probe drive system as a global correction factor. Probe tips with known positions are inserted into spaced apart locator wells to detect skew of the locator bed.

Abstract:

A clamping system for a sewing machine used to sew first and second materials together. The clamping system has a plurality of clamps mounted adjacent an opening in a frame. Each of the clamps has a stationary member, a movable member and an actuator. The actuator is connected to the movable member and operates to move the movable member in a clamping relationship with the stationary member to clamp the first material in the clamp. The clamp is powered by a cylinder with a linear stroke, and the clamp has a driving member that transfers the linear motion of the cylinder into a pivoting motion of the movable member. Further, the movable and fixed members have forward ends shaped so that they hold the first material but do not interfere with a sewing of the first member to the second member.

A novel means of correcting the motion of an analytical instrument is introduced herein based on the determination of the optimal theoretical parameters in the equation of grating angle versus a selected wavelength. Such a desirable correction method of the present invention not only reduces the amount of wavelength error at the calibration points but also in a novel fashion beneficially corrects for errors in a time-efficient manner between the calibration points to a greater degree than conventional calibration methods.

Abstract:

The present disclosure addresses thermal issues in a multi gate finger field-effect transistor (FET) by providing a multi-gate finger FET arrangement where the respective distances between the multiple gate fingers are modulated along the device, such that the distances between the gate fingers in or towards the middle of the device are greater than the distances between the gate fingers at the or towards the edge of the device. By providing the greater distances between gate fingers located in or towards the middle of the device then improved thermal management properties are obtained, and the device as a whole is maintained cooler than would otherwise be the case, with associated improvements in device lifetimes.
