Abstract:

The partially condensed fluid recycle stream of a fluidized bed polyolefin reactor operating in the condensing mode is split into two portions by a stream splitter. In a preferred mode, the smaller stream from the splitter contains a higher ratio of liquid to gas than the larger stream. One portion of the split stream is injected below the fluidized bed and the other, preferably with enhanced liquid content, is injected into the fluidized bed at a level above the distributor plate, preferably above the product withdrawal level.

Abstract:

A continuous gas fluidized bed polymerization process for the production of a polymer from a monomer including continuously passing a gaseous stream comprising the monomer through a fluidized bed reactor in the presence of a catalyst under reactive conditions; withdrawing a polymeric product and a stream comprising unreacted monomer gases; cooling said stream comprising unreacted monomer gases to form a mixture comprising a gas phase and a liquid phase and reintroducing said mixture into said reactor with sufficient additional monomer to replace that monomer polymerized and withdrawn as the product, wherein said liquid phase is vaporized, and wherein the stream comprises an induced condensing agent selected from the group consisting of alkanes, cycloalkanes, and mixtures thereof, the induced condensing agent having a normal boiling point less than 25 C.

Abstract:

Provided are systems and methods for separating a purge gas recovered from a polyethylene product. The method includes recovering a polyethylene product containing one or more volatile hydrocarbons from a polymerization reactor and contacting the polyethylene product with a purge gas to remove at least a portion of the volatile hydrocarbons to produce a polymer product having a reduced concentration of volatile hydrocarbons and a purge gas product enriched in volatile hydrocarbons. The purge gas product is compressed to a pressure of 2,500 kPaa to 10,000 kPaa, and is then cooled and separated into at least a first product, a second product, and a third product. A portion of one or more of the first, second, or third products is then recycled as a purge gas, to the polymerization reactor, or to the purge gas product enriched in volatile hydrocarbons prior to compression, respectively.
