Abstract:

A ceiling design tool and method of using the tool for forming plaster designs on walls and ceilings comprising a circular planar face portion having a centered cylindrical handle. The face portion comprises a rubber layer over a burlap layer clamped onto the edge of a circular metal plate. The face portion of the tool is dipped in a fluid plaster mixture and applied to a ceiling or wall surface of either plaster or drywall in a stepwise rolling motion to create a unique textured surface such as half-moons, bead work and scroll patterns.

Abstract:

A liquid transport system. The liquid transport system includes a gas displacement piping section fluidly coupled to a centrifugal pump or to other portions of the liquid transport system. The gas displacement piping section includes an inlet, and outlet and a gas discharge located between the inlet and outlet for enabling gases to escape or be displaced from the gas displacement piping section, the gas displacement piping section being configured to cause entrained gases in flowing liquid to migrate toward the gas discharge. In centrifugal pump embodiments, the gas displacement piping section may be fluidly coupled upstream or downstream of the centrifugal pump, and may include a vacuum pump and/or float valve coupled to the gas discharge.

Abstract:

An enzymatic reagent is provided for use in the kinetic measurement of the concentration of an enzyme substrate present in a sample and possessing the Michaelis-Menten relationship between reaction rate and substrate concentration. The reagent includes an enzyme such as glucose oxidase, uricase or urease for reacting with corresponding enzyme substrates such as glucose, uric acid or urea. In addition, the reagent includes a nonreacting competitive inhibitor of the enzyme. The inhibitor is present in an amount sufficient to improve the linearity of the reaction rate-concentration relationship associated with the enzyme substrate reaction at concentrations which are low relative to the Michaelis-Menten constant, Km, for the particular enzyme substrate reaction. The improved linearity, in turn, improves the accuracy of the kinetic measurements of substrate concentration made by linear output analyzers especially in an upper portion of the predetermined range where the relationship is particularly nonlinear.

Abstract:

Apparatus for the analysis of samples such as blood or urine includes a reaction cell for reacting the sample with a chemical reagent at a predetermined temperature. A heat exchanger is provided on the reaction cell for establishing the temperature of the cell. Reagent is pumped into the cell through a conduit, and a portion of the conduit is wound around the reaction cell in contact with the heat exchanger to preheat reagent in the conduit before the reagent is pumped into the cell.

One variation of a method—for controlling a breathing mask comprising a flow control module configured to mate to nostrils of a user and comprising an actuator configured to adjust obstruction to airflow out of the flow control module—includes: accessing a wake alarm time; accessing a sleep delay duration; at a first time, receiving an indicator that the user is preparing for sleep; in response to receiving the indicator, triggering the actuator to transition from a minimum-restriction position toward a maximum-restriction position at a second time succeeding the first time by the sleep delay duration, the actuator minimally obstructing airflow out of outlet port in the minimum-restriction position and maximally obstructing airflow out of outlet port in the maximally—restriction position; and, prior to the wake alarm time, triggering the actuator to transition back to the minimum-restriction position.
