  • Filed:
    May 5, 1975
  • Appl. No.:
    5/574234
  • Inventors:
Robert L. Schaeffer - Brockport NY
    Kaj Toft - Upland CA
  • Assignee:
General Electric Company - Bridgeport CT
  • International Classification:
    B23K 3102
  • US Classification:
    228164
  • Abstract:
A steam iron soleplate, generator, and distributor subassembly of a thin soleplate with a coverplate spaced from and supported on the soleplate by spaced peripheral rib means to define a steam distributing passage therebetween. The coverplate is integrally attached to the soleplate by a continuous weld between the ribs and soleplate and steam generating means are provided in the upper surface of the coverplate separate and spaced from the soleplate and ducted below to the steam passage means. A heat generating element forms an integral part of the coverplate for heat transfer to the soleplate through the ribs primarily by conduction. Both the method of assembly and the subassembly itself are disclosed.
  • Food Processing Appliance

    view source
  • US Patent:
    41532104, May 8, 1979
  • Filed:
    Feb 10, 1978
  • Appl. No.:
    5/876764
  • Inventors:
Robert L. Schaeffer - LeRoy NY
  • Assignee:
General Electric Company - New York NY
  • International Classification:
    B02C 1812
  • US Classification:
    2412821
  • Abstract:
A food processing appliance has a base and removable bowl with a cutter mechanism therein which is supported on and driven from a power unit in the base at selected speeds. The invention provides an improvement of a removable reducing transmission disposed directly in and removably coupled to form and close the bottom wall in the bowl and having a portion extending into the bowl for supporting the cutting mechanism. The transmission is disposed entirely external to the base and is driven from the base whereby the selected removable bowl can only be connected to the base for food processing when the transmission is coupled directly to the bowl.
  • Rotary Cutter Blade

  • Filed:
    Apr 24, 1978
  • Appl. No.:
    5/898908
  • Inventors:
Robert L. Schaeffer - LeRoy NY
  • Assignee:
General Electric Company - New York NY
  • International Classification:
    B02C 1812
  • US Classification:
    2412821
  • Abstract:
A rotary cutter blade for use in an unfluted constant diameter bowl of a small series motor driven food processor with a rotatable hub is provided where the blade comprises a cutting surface formed in two distinct curvatures of substantially equal radii with a first inner surface including a long circular outwardly convex cutting edge having its center of curvature offset a given amount from the hub axis and terminating inwardly of the bowl inner surface and having a second outer surface of a short circular outwardly convex cutting edge with its center of curvature being a lesser amount offset from the hub axis and extending from tangency with the bowl inner surface to terminate in a substantially pointed intersection with the first cutting edge and the first and second cutting surfaces having lengths substantially in the ratio of 3 to 1 where the particularly formed blade permits use of a series motor without stalling or jamming by wedged pieces of food between the blade and bowl. Preferably, the cutter is provided in pairs of diametrically opposite cutters extending from the hub for balanced operation with the opposite cutters being offset vertically in different planes.

  • Filed:
    Apr 11, 1977
  • Appl. No.:
    5/786649
  • Inventors:
Robert L. Schaeffer - Leroy NY
  • Assignee:
General Electric Company - Bridgeport CT
  • International Classification:
    B26B 100
  • US Classification:
    30123
  • Abstract:
A cutter construction for a vegetable peeler that has a cylindrically electrically rotatable body with a longitudinal mounting shaft and a plurality of longitudinally extending slots coextensive with and equally spaced around the body and a cutter blade disposed lengthwise from the body outer end to the inner end in each slot. In this general arrangement an improved slot and blade configuration is provided wherein each blade is disposed in its own slot with its entire cutting edge angled or slanted in the direction of rotation and with a high point in an operable permissible range above the body periphery a maximum of 0. 030 inches (0. 75 mm) and a minimum of 0. 008 inches (0. 20 mm). A clearance recess is provided below and coextensive with each blade and extending substantially at right angles to the blades in the direction of rotation. It has a peripheral width from substantially 0 inches to 0.
  • Removable Tank Iron

  • US Patent:
    39494993, Apr 13, 1976
  • Filed:
    Dec 19, 1974
  • Appl. No.:
    5/534215
  • Inventors:
Robert L. Schaeffer - Leroy NY

An iron with fluid handling means and a removable tank assembly that has a tank support and a conduit that extends from the fluid handling means into the tank when it is disposed on the support. Means are provided to fill the tank when removed and a pliable plug means is disposed in the tank and split to accept the conduit therethrough in a sealing relation permitting fluid flow from the tank to the handling means so that the conduit pierces the pliable plug in a tight seal when the tank is placed in position and the plug seals itself when the conduit and tank are separated for filling.
  • Combined Holder And Handle For Machine Readable Entry Card

    view source
  • US Patent:
    60762969, Jun 20, 2000
  • Filed:
    Nov 20, 1998
  • Appl. No.:
    9/197147
  • Inventors:
Robert Schaeffer - New York NY
  • International Classification:
    G09F 318
    G09F 320
  • US Classification:
    4066112
  • Abstract:
A card holder for a mass transit entry card having one longitudinal edge portion encoded with machine readable information is formed by folding a plastic blank to provide overlying panel portions forming a pocket which clasps the opposite longitudinal edge portion of the card adjacent the fold so that the encoded edge extends clear of the holder, remote from the fold exposed for machine reading by longitudinal sliding movement along a slot of a card reading head in a swiping action. A hook extends in coplanar relation from a longitudinal end of one of the panel portions for securing the card holder carrying the card to a user's bag strap or pocket and has a returned free end extending inward, behind a land which extends from the panel portion, forming a stop, preventing overstress of the hook.
  • Processor And Cutter Disc

    view source
  • US Patent:
    41902084, Feb 26, 1980
  • Filed:
    Oct 27, 1978
  • Appl. No.:
    5/955348
  • Inventors:
Robert L. Schaeffer - LeRoy NY
Bhim S. Madan - Brockport NY
  • Assignee:
General Electric Company - New York NY
  • International Classification:
    B02C 1818
  • US Classification:
    241 92
  • Abstract:
In a food processor with a power base and a lid-covered bowl, a feed chute through the lid empties onto a cutting disc rotated by a shaft extending into and terminating in the bowl. To this general combination an improvement in the disc structure is provided comprising a peripheral flange around the disc edge extending upwardly adjacent the bowl inner surface, with a single substantially rectangular locking bevel-edged opening through the disc and flange on one side only of the disc's center, the opening terminating short of and adjacent the disc center. A narrow slot is provided centrally of the opening to extend across the disc center and a depending hub on the disc at its center crosses the slot to receive the shaft. A removable beveled-edged cutter blade insert has a tab matching the slot and the insert is radially slidable into the opening and the slot to contact the hub. A stepped sleeve on the tab vertically locates the insert on the shaft and the insert has a scoop behind the cutter which is beveled to funnel cut food down into the bowl.
