Abstract:

Methods for identifying and monitoring increased or decreased levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase in biological samples are provided. A collection device for detecting inducible nitric oxide synthase in biological samples is also provided. Detection of inducible nitric oxide synthase is useful in the diagnosis of inflammatory responses such as infections mediated by bacteria, yeast or viruses, transplant rejection, rheumatoid arthritis, interstitial cystitis and cancer.

Abstract:

The present invention includes a method for diagnosing cancer comprising detecting the presence of survivin in the biological fluid of a patient. The present invention also provides kits comprising one or more agents that detect survivin polypeptide or survivin nucleic acid and a container for collecting biological fluid for testing.

Abstract:

The present invention is directed to a human body protecting element for use with and attachment to an article of clothing, such as sports apparel, to protect a wearer from impact and frictional forces, such as road rash. One exemplary body protecting element includes a first part having a first locking member. The first part is for placement along an inner surface of the article of clothing. The body protecting element also includes a second part having a second locking member that is complementary to the first locking member and results in a mechanical coupling (e.g., a snap-fit attachment) between the first and second parts when the first and second locking members engage one another. The second part is for placement along an outer surface of the article of clothing and includes an outer ground contacting contoured surface. The ground contacting surface provides a high impact surface that is contoured so that if the wearer contacts and/or slides across the ground, the ground contacting surface protects the wearer by shielding the wearer's body from the abrasive ground surface.

Abstract:

A forward recovery foot support system for any shoe but primarily for running and jogging shoes. The system includes a base conforming generally to the contour of a human foot, a first ray extension attached to the base and extending substantially only under the first proximal phalanx of the foot, a fifth ray extension attached to the base and extending substantially only under the fifth proximal phalanx of the foot, and a heel post attached to the base and extending substantially only under the heel bone and providing added elevation at the most lateral aspect of the heel bone to compensate for the natural inversion of 2. degree. -3. degree. that is present in most persons' heels. This support can be designed as an insert independent of a conventional shoe sole or may be incorporated into the sole of a shoe.

Abstract:

A foot or fifth toe support for any shoe but primarily for running and jogging shoes, consisting of a flat, flexible and resilient member located below the fifth proximal phalanx from the metatarsal-phalanx joint to the proximal phalanx neck. This support lies independently on the upper surface of a conventional shoe sole or it may be an extension of a semi-rigid orthotic device contoured and dimensioned to cradle the sole and heel to a line across the foot near the distal ends of the metatarsal bones.

Abstract:

A foot support system for any shoe; walking, athletic, men, women's dress shoes, children's shoes. The system includes a base that conforming to the contour of a human foot, a heel post attached to the base and extending substantially under heel bone to relieve pressure on contact and provide stability and heel support, a transverse metatarsal stabilization bar located posterior or behind the metatarsal heads in the mid foot for stability of control of the 2, 3, and 4metatarsal. A first ray extension originates at the metatarsal stabilization bar posterior to the metatarsal heads in the middle of the foot and ending distal-end to the mid-section of the first toe. Fifth ray extension originates at the transverse metatarsal stabilization bar posterior to the metatarsal heads in the middle of the foot and ending distal-end to the mid-section of the fifth toe. The orthotic system can be designed as an insert independent of a convention shoe sole, or may be incorporated into the sole of the shoe.
