    Mar 31, 1998
  • Appl. No.:
    09/052873
  • Inventors:
Roger D. Melen - Los Altos Hills CA
  • Assignee:
    Canon Kabushiki Kaisha - Tokyo
  • International Classification:
    H04N 132
  • US Classification:
    358468, 358402, 358404, 358407, 358 115
  • Abstract:
A scanning system routes scanned document information ( ) to a specified location ( ) based on scanned control sheet information ( ). Each location ( ) is associated with an existing identifier ( ). Scanned control sheet information ( ) is retrieved by the scanning system from graphical information displayed on a control sheet ( ). The system compares a tentative identifier ( ) obtained from the scanned control sheet information ( ) to existing identifiers ( ) to determine a location ( ) to which scanned document information ( ) should be routed.
  • Reducing Motion Artifacts By Joining Partial Images In Multiple Scans

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6437306, Aug 20, 2002
  • Filed:
    Nov 1, 1999
  • Appl. No.:
    09/431000
  • Inventors:
Roger D. Melen - Los Altos Hills CA
  • Assignee:
    Canon Kabushiki Kaisha - Tokyo
  • International Classification:
    H01L 2700
  • US Classification:
    2502081, 378146, 345506
  • Abstract:
In generation of combined image data from first and second scans of an image, artifacts caused by motion between the first and second scans are reduced. Digital pixel data for the first and second scans are stored. A translational second scan is generated using the first and second scans, the translational second scan having new digital pixel data which compensates for motion artifacts between the first and second scans. The combined image data is generated by combining the digital pixel data of the first scan with the new digital pixel data of the translational second scan, with the translational second scan being weighted before it is summed with the digital pixel data of the first scan.

  • Correcting An Epipolar Axis For Skew And Offset

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6674892, Jan 6, 2004
  • Filed:
    Nov 1, 1999
  • Appl. No.:
    09/431418
  • Inventors:
Roger D. Melen - Los Altos Hills CA
  • Assignee:
    Canon Kabushiki Kaisha - Tokyo
  • International Classification:
    G06K 900
  • US Classification:
    382154, 382285, 382289, 348 42
  • Abstract:
Cameras ( ) produce first and second images ( ) of an object ( ) from different viewpoints. An image partitioning module ( ) partitions the images ( ) into a plurality of vertically striped regions ( ), such that each region ( ) of the first image ( ) corresponds to a region ( ) of the second image ( ). A region alignment module ( ) vertically shifts a region ( ) of the first image ( ) in a direction calculated to vertically align a portion ( ) of the region ( ) with a substantially matching portion ( ) of the corresponding region ( ). A disparity calculation module ( ) calculates at least one disparity value between at least a portion ( ) of the vertically shifted region ( ) and at least a portion ( ) of the corresponding region ( ).
  • Flipping Stereoscopic Radiographs

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6760469, Jul 6, 2004
  • Filed:
    Oct 5, 2000
  • Appl. No.:
    09/685017
  • Inventors:
Alexander Berestov - San Jose CA
Harry T. Garland - Los Altos Hills CA
Roger D. Melen - Los Altos Hills CA
  • Assignee:
    Canon Kabushiki Kaisha - Tokyo
  • International Classification:
    G06K 900
  • US Classification:
    382132, 382154, 378 41
  • Abstract:
A radiographic imaging system ( ) comprises an X-ray tube ( ), a sensor plate ( ), and a graphics engine ( ). The tube ( ) and the sensor plate ( ) rotate synchronously about a patient ( ) and expose a stereoscopic pair of images which are transmitted to the graphics engine ( ). The graphics engine ( ) determines ( ) the geometry of the system ( ). If ( ) the pair of images are toed-in relative to each other, the graphics engine ( ) converts ( ) the images into a parallel geometry. Likewise, the graphics engine ( ) also processes ( ) the images for keystone distortion, if necessary. Simply flipping the images in the stereo pair distorts the depth of objects in the stereoscopic image. Instead of simply flipping the images, it is desirable to âgo behindâ the screen ( A) and look at the image from the back. In order to produce a stereoscopic image having this viewpoint, the graphics engine ( ) uses the geometry of the radiographic system ( ) to adjust ( ) the screen parallax of the image after the constituent images are flipped ( ) and provide the desired three-dimensional perspective.

The invention provides for an infrastructure where component programs that are the computational logic of the distributed application are installed over a network of computing units having controller programs running on each of these computing units. The invention provides for separating the concerns of computation, installation, execution and monitoring of the distributed application in terms of time, space and people involved. This is accomplished as the component programs simply perform the computation task and the communication between the component programs and their monitoring is handled by the controller programs.
