Abstract:This invention is directed to a magnetic resonance imaging composition for imaging of an organ or organ system comprising an organic silicon compound. Preferably, the organ system is the gastrointestinal tract. The present invention is further directed to a method of diagnosis comprising administering to a mammal a contrast effective amount of an organic silicon compound suspended or dispersed in a physiologically tolerable carrier and generating a magnetic resonance image of said mammal. In a preferred embodiment, the organic silicon compound is a silane. In another preferred embodiment, the organic silicon compound is a siloxane. In yet another preferred embodiment, the organic silicon compound is a polysiloxane.
