Abstract:

Two movable members, one on either side of a pre-folded continuous form entering a paper stacking area, are driven according to a determined position of the pre-folded form to push a leading edge of the form to one or another side of the stacking area so that the folds in the form will develop correctly in a stack. Only one of the members is permitted to contact the form at any time, and the members are separated by a sufficient angle so that no position of the members permits both members to contact the form. After directing the first and second sheets of the form, the members return to a home position in which neither member obstructs or interferes with subsequent stacking of the form. The position of the pre-folded form may be determined by a leading edge sensor, by a sheet feed rate sensor, by a fold position sensor, by a fold orientation sensor, by timing from a predetermined position, or by manual input. When a fold detector orientation sensor is used, the leading edge is appropriately directed to one or another side of the stacking area depending on the orientation of the folds detected in the form. The fold orientation sensor may use the properties of the stiffness of the continuous form and fold memory to detect the orientation of a fold.

Abstract:

An access port for loading single tape cartridges into and retrieving single tape cartridges from an automated tape cartridge library system. A door is rotatably mounted in an opening in an exterior panel of the library system. The shape of the door is designed so that the opening is blocked at all times, regardless of the position of the door. A tape cartridge tray is mounted on the rear side of the door, slanted downward at a ten degree angle. The downward slant of the tray enables the robot to accurately find tape cartridges placed therein and restrains the tape cartridge from accidental dislodgement. A latch mechanism is provided to prevent the door from rotating when the robot is operating near the access port. The latch has an actuator preventing unlatching of the door. The actuator is activated by the operating system when it is safe to rotate the door.

Abstract:

A magazine for handling a plurality of tape cartridges. The magazine includes a plurality of vertically spaced, parallel shelves having tapered front edges with notches formed therein for ease of tape cartridge insertion. The slots slant downward to precisely position and restrain the tape cartridges magazine. A rib extends through each slot to engage in a tape cartridge notch. Improperly inserted tape cartridges will be forced to extend further out of the magazine so that they will be easily identified. A handle formed on the upper end of the front face of the magazine causes the lower end of the magazine to pivot forward to restrain the tape cartridges from accidental dislodgement. A locking strap is also provided to prevent the tape cartridges from accidentally dislodging from the magazine.

Abstract:

A simple joining process for members of passive microwave structures is described which reduces passive intermodulation. The process forms an aperture in a first member and forms a second member to have dimension which exceeds the aperture dimension by a dimension differential. The members are joined by initially causing them to have a temperature differential that is sufficient to permit the second member to be positioned across the aperture. The dimension differential is selected to generate mutually-induced radial stresses in the members, after the temperature differential is removed, which enhance the metal-to-metal contact between the members and, thereby, improve passive intermodulation (PIM) performance. Preferably, the dimension differential is selected to cause the second member to elastically buckle and exert a buckling stress against the first member. Additional interface structures are provided to resist operational axial forces, e. g.

Abstract:

An electrical connector device (10) is provided in which a first member (15) of dielectric material defines a four-sided recess having a bottom wall (20) and side walls (16), and a second member (24) of dielectric material which can fit inside the recess with its edges (25) spaced a predetermined distance from the side walls (16) of the first member (15). Tab portions (31, 32, 44, 45) of one or more flexible circuits (11, 12) are bent around the side walls (16) of the first member (15) and frictionally held between the wall (16) of the first member (15) and the edge (25) of the second member (24). Exposed conductors (29, 49) of the flexible circuit (11, 12) on the outside of the wall (16) can mate with conductors (75) in a socket connector (13). Boards of a first group of mutually parallel circuit boards (200,206) are directly connected to boards (27a,22b) of a second group of mutually parallel circuit boards by interfitting hermaphroditic connectors (24,26,28,30) mounted on edges of the boards. The boards of one group are all perpendicular to the boards of the other group and are positioned in edge-to-edge relation. Each board has a plurality of hermaphroditic connectors secured to its edge, with each connector adapted to mate with an identical hermaphroditic connector secured at an edge of a board of the second group. The hermaphroditic connectors are each substantially U-shaped (24,26,28,30) in one embodiment and J-shaped (126,128,130) in another embodiment. Each such connector has a first section (66,68) parallel to the surface of the board and electrically connected thereto and a second section (70) extending at right angles to the first section for a pressure type connection to the similar second section of the mating hermaphroditic connector of a board of the second group. The mating second sections (70,70b) of the two mating connectors have pressure contact connection elements in the form of raised elongated strips (220,222) of conductive material that ease positioning tolerance of the interconnection.
