Abstract:
A thoracentesis device for removing fluid from a cavity includes a hypersensitive dual spring indication mechanism for alerting the user of any contact to internal body organs. The thoracentesis device includes a handle and an outer needle fixedly attached to the handle. The outer needle forms a sharp distal end and a spring-loaded inner needle, including a blunt tip distal end, is slidably disposed inside the conduit of the outer needle. A first spring has a first spring force that urges the inner needle into a fully extended position and a second spring has a second spring force that acts on the inner needle in opposition of the first spring force. A first and second opposite colored indicators are arranged in contact with the springs so as to alert the user to any initial contact made by the thoracentesis device.

Abstract:
A thoracentesis device having a hypersensitive dual spring indication mechanism for visually alerting the user of any contact to internal body organs by the blunt tip distal end of the device once the it as been inserted inside a patients body. The thoracentesis device includes a handle and an outer needle fixedly attached thereto having a sharp distal end for penetrating a chest cavity wall and a conduit that is in communication with a cavity defined inside the handle. A dual spring-loaded inner needle is slidably disposed inside the conduit of the outer needle with the inner needle being operably is associated with a large spring that imparts a sufficient distal spring force to fully extend the blunt tip distal end of the inner needle beyond the sharp distal end of the outer needle and a small spring for imparting a smaller spring force thereto.

Abstract:
A plunger rod assembly for use with a syringe barrel is provided and includes a plunger rod slidably disposable within the syringe barrel, wherein the plunger rod includes a hub extending distally from a distal end thereof and at least two tabs extending outwardly therefrom. The syringe further includes a plug configured for slidable disposition in the syringe barrel and configured for selective connection to the plunger rod via a bayonet-type engagement. The plug includes a base wall having at least two resilient fingers supported on a first side thereof, wherein each resilient finger is configured to snap-fit engage a respective tab of the plunger rod during connection of the plug to the plunger rod; and a plunger tip supported on a second side of the base wall, opposite the first side, and being configured to form a substantially fluid tight seal with an inner surface of the syringe barrel.

Abstract:
An adapter and syringe assembly is described in this application which includes a syringe and an adapter for anti-rotation, removal resistant connection to the syringe. The syringe has a body defining a fluid reservoir, a plunger assembly including a plunger head dimensioned to be slidably received within the reservoir, a fluid outlet, and a first coupling member. The adapter has a body portion defining a fluid channel, a collar portion, and a second coupling member configured to engage the first coupling member to secure the adapter to the syringe. The syringe includes at least one rib and a surface of the collar includes at least one protrusion. The at least one rib and the at least one protrusion are configured and positioned to interact to facilitate attachment of the adapter to the syringe but to resist detachment of the oral dose tip adapter from the syringe. The body portion of the adapter may define an oral dose tip or a needle hub assembly.
