Abstract:

Disclosed herein is a storage battery heat maintenance unit which in the preferred embodiment comprises an adaptor post, U-tube heating coil and cap which mount over at least one terminal post of a standard electric storage battery of the type generally used in automotive vehicles. The U-tube heating coil is connected to the liquid cooling system of the vehicle's engine thereby circulating coolant about the terminal post. Heat is thereby conducted through the U-tube heating coil, the adaptor post and through the terminal post into the storage battery. In this way the internal temperature of the storage battery is raised to high efficiency operating temperatures under cold weather conditions.

Abstract:

A viewing apparatus for the purpose of separating a particular view from its surroundings and for the purpose of identifying the distance of the viewed object is disclosed. A viewing apparatus that attaches to and is used in conjunction with firearms weaponry is disclosed. The apparatus is characterized by an enclosed and elongated see through hooded opening attached directly to said firearms weaponry and is used to direct and aid open sight viewing of a distant object by blocking out immediate surroundings and thereby separating the view of said object from its immediate surroundings. The apparatus is affixed with a calibrates scale designed to measure distance of a distant object according to its height. The apparatus can be affixed with additional apparatus for precise windage and elevation adjustment.

Abstract:

Preferred forms of viewing apparatus according to the teachings of the present invention are shown as including an enclosed and elongated see-through passage having a hooded front opening. The rear end of the enclosed and elongated see-through passage includes a visually opaque annular perimeter portion extending around a rear opening of a size smaller than the front opening. The effect of the passage, the size relationships of the front and rear openings, and the annular perimeter portion is to separate the targeted object from its immediate surroundings and to create a visual window effect rather than a tunnel effect. In its most preferred form, the passage has a constant size throughout its length and the annular perimeter portion extends radially into the passage. The viewing apparatus includes a camouflage cover which can be removably secured thereto and a range finder on the annular perimeter portion for judging distances to the targeted object. In preferred forms of the viewing apparatus including sighting members within the passage according to the teachings of the present invention, apparatus for providing windage and elevation adjustment is incorporated with the enclosed and elongated see-through passage.

Abstract:

Apparatus for heating and for maintaining temperatures in storage batteries is shown in the preferred forms of the present invention as including a T-shaped insulation blanket, a thermal cap, a thermally insulating mat, and a battery heater. The battery heater is secured to the battery by generally Z-shaped hangers and a securement strap and includes a heat exchanger connected to the cooling system of the vehicle. The heat exchanger is enclosed by a back cover telescopically received in a unit base. Ribs on the back cover and unit base create air buffers to reduce heat transfer to the battery. The thermally insulating mat is formed of a sheet having integral ribs and is of a size smaller than the bottom of the battery such that the bottom edges of the battery trap air between the ribs and beneath the storage battery to form an air barrier. The head of the T-shaped insulation blanket is held in a wrapped condition around the faces of the storage battery and the leg of the T-shaped insulation blanket extends over the top of the battery and has its free end located beneath the head of the T-shaped insulation blanket. The thermal cap covers the top of the storage battery and extends down the faces of the storage battery beneath the head of the insulation blanket in a wrapped condition around the faces of the battery.
