Abstract:

The invention provides a system for monitoring and controlling an exothermic reaction in an ion exchange process involving a liquid containing a composition capable of producing an exothermic reaction to control a continuous or a rapid evolution of heat and avoid the generation of excessive gaseous decomposition products which can produce pressure âburstingâ forces within a closed container. The system has at least one ion exchange unit, temperature detecting units for reading the temperature of each of the ion exchange units and for providing a temperature signal when the temperature is in a preselected range and a quenching system which may be manually or automatically activated.
