Abstract:

A system and method for managing mobile communications is disclosed. The system and method can determine which of several systems associated with a motor vehicle is permitted to communicate with a user interface in the motor vehicle. The user interface is used to assist in facilitating communications between a user and one of the communications systems. The user interface can include a display and be connected to at least one loudspeaker. The various systems associated with the vehicle communicate with one another and determine which system can communicate with the user interface.

A system and method for transferring information to a motor vehicle is disclosed. The system and method can send music files from a computer to an on board unit associated with a motor vehicle. The music files can be sent in a variety of different ways, including wirelessly. Abstract:

A system and method for formatting numbers is disclosed. The system and method can determine if a telephone number is received, either alone or as part of a string. If a telephone number is received, the system applies a format to the number corresponding to a recognized telephone number format. If a number other than a telephone number is received, the system applies a different kind of format to the number. In some cases, the system applies a format to the number using the pauses between spoken characters or numbers. The system and method can be used with a hands free telephone.

Abstract:

A user interface system includes a display, a user interface including a trackball, a brake assembly configured to cooperate with the trackball to limit rotational movement of the trackball to about predetermined axes, and a control system in electrical communication with the display, the user interface, and the brake assembly. The control system is configured to operate in at least one input status mode including a first input status mode and a second input status mode based on desired directional input of the trackball. The control system includes a trackball control module. When in the first input status mode, the trackball control module communicates with the brake assembly to restrict rotation of the trackball to about a first axis. When in the second input status mode, the trackball control module communicates with the brake assembly to restrict rotation of the trackball to about a second axis.
