Techniques are described for an intuitive and efficient GUI. In an example, a UI elements are presented on a GUI. Each one of the UI elements can corresponds to a set of computer applications or a set of computer files having attributes and each one of the UI elements can be selected to launch, as applicable, a computer application, a computer file, or a page about the computer application or computer file. A request to sort the UI elements can be received and can indicate at least one of the attributes as a sort factor. The UI elements are sorted accordingly and presented in an updated arrangement on the GUI. An attribute used in the sorting is presented within or in proximity to the UI elements, whereas another attribute not used in the sorting is not presented in the updated arrangement.
Inserting A Graphical Element Cluster In A Tiled Library User Interface
Techniques are described for presenting selectable tiles on a user interface. In an example, the techniques include providing a graphical user interface, including an immediate selection area and a full selection area, for user interface (UI) elements, some being selectable to launch or resume a corresponding computer application. The techniques also include determining a library of computer applications that a user executed or obtained. The techniques also include selecting a first subset of the library of computer applications a number of items in the first subset being limited. The techniques also include rendering UI elements of the first subset on the graphical user interface in the immediate selection area. The techniques also include identifying a second subset of items from the library. The techniques also include displaying UI elements of the library in the full selection area of the graphical user interface.
Single Representation Of A Group Of Applications On A User Interface
Techniques are described for presenting application variations on a user interface. In an example, the techniques include associating computer applications with an application group, the computer applications being different variations of a same computer program. The techniques further include generating a user interface (UI) element that represents the application group. The techniques further include selecting a first computer application of the computer applications to indicate in association with the UI element. The techniques further include presenting the UI element on a user interface, the UI element indicating the application group and the first computer application, the UI element configured to, upon selection via the user interface, launch the first computer application or launch a page about the application group.

Abstract:
Techniques for managing notifications are described. In an example, a computing device receives notification data. The computing device compares a first context associated with the notification data and a second context associated with an application executing in an application window on a display. The computing device determines whether the notification data is to be presented in the application window or is to be sent to a queue based on the comparison, the queue storing other notification data corresponding to another notification. The computing device also presents, based on the comparison, at least the notification data or a notification in the application window over at least a portion of content from execution of the application while a presentation of the content continues, the notification distinct from the notification data and indicating that the notification data is presented.

Abstract:
Techniques for managing notifications are described. In an example, a computing device presents content in an application window based on an execution of an application. Notification data is received by a computing device. Based on a context associated with the computing device, such as whether the application window is the foreground and whether the notification data is associated with the application or such as the operational mode of the computing device, a determination is made whether to present a corresponding notification in-context within the application window or in a pop-up window. Otherwise, the notification is added to a notification list and can be summarized in a notification summary.
