Saeed Ahmed is a 26-year old who graduated from the UOH and is preparing his Master's degree from the Open University in Malaysia. He is the Executive Director of SONYO Youth Umbrella.

Saeed was born in Mogadishu and grew up in Cairo, Diridaba, Harshin and Hargeisa respectively. He received his early education (preparatory Qur’anic edification) in Hargeisa in 1993. He was enrolled in Gacmadheere Elementary and Primary School in 1994. Saeed finished his primary education in 2002. He went to ILAYS High School for his secondary schooling. Afterward, in 2005 he went to the University of Hargeisa and was registered in the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics. In 2009, he graduated from the University as he received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. In his last year project, Saeed has written on the challenges of poverty and the possibilities (strategies) of its alleviation. His paper’s title was: Poverty Reduction through Zakat System. He has gained appreciations and tribute from writing on Zakat (Islamic charity and philanthropy ritual) and the ways this practice can address poverty and its ensuing ramifications. With regard to the feedbacks gotten, Saeed raised the argument of his paper to a national level. He has succeeded to convince his Party’s leaders to regard Zakat system enforcement as one the key points of their party’s agenda (manifesto). As Saeed was one of those who crafted and drafted the UCID Party’s Manifesto, he highlighted Zakat System enforcement as one of the key priorities of Party’s economic policy. As a result, the President of the Republic of Somaliland, regarding the advise dispatched by the Elite Committee (which the president nominated for advising him on forming his government), established a National Zakat Fund and appointed a board of governors for this fund.
