A system for automatically feeding, assembling, folding and sealing a pre-folded self-mailer form sheet having a letter size enclosure when utilized with a B-size printer electronically connected to a computer that may in turn be connected through a modem to the Internet for receiving text signals via E-mail from remote locations.
An apparatus is disclosed for turning flat articles. The apparatus includes an apparatus for receiving a serial stream of the articles which are traveling along a first linear path, the path including a nonrotating surface. There is a rotating device which causes each article to rotate through a pre-selected angle. The device also steers the articles in a pre-selected direction by a roller. A guiding apparatus causes each article to be properly directed, and a conveying device causes each rotated article to be conveyed along a path which is parallel to the pre-selected direction of travel. The apparatus is utilized in executing a method for receiving, rotating and conveying the articles along the pre-selected direction.

Abstract:
An apparatus for producing items in selected configurations and a system, and method for controlling the same. More particularly, an apparatus for producing mail pieces and a system and method for controlling it to produce mail pieces in a variety of configurations are disclosed. The apparatus includes a laser printer and folding sealing apparatus controlled by a data processor. The folder sealer apparatus combines sheets printed by the laser printer with pre-printed sheets and envelope forms, which also may be printed by the laser printer or may be windowed envelopes, folds the sheets as necessary and folds and seals the envelope form about the folded sheets to produce a mail piece. A user inputs a configuration for the mail piece which is translated by the data processor into a data structure and transmitted to the controller of the folder sealer apparatus. The controller controls devices comprised in the laser printer and the folder sealer by executing state routines in accordance with the data structure to produce the mail piece in the defined configuration.
An apparatus for sequentially folding paper includes a first pair of rollers which feeds the paper to a first uncovered concave buckling chute. A paper stop mechanism aligns an end of the paper in a gap between the chute and a second pair of rollers which in turn receives the document to form a first fold in the paper. The second roller pair conveys the paper to a second uncovered curved chute which coacts wih a third pair of rollers to form a second fold in the paper. Use of uncovered buckle chute facilitates clearance of paper jams without requiring disassembly of the apparatus.

Abstract:
Apparatus for printing, folding, and sealing a one-piece form sheet to prepare a self-mailer. The apparatus includes a substantially conventional printer, which may be a laser printer, suitable for use with a personal computer. The printer is mounted above and outputs printed form sheets downwards to a folder sealer for folding and sealing to prepare a self-mailer. The folder sealer includes a folder having a central and peripheral rollers and curved, one-sided, open buckle chutes for folding the form sheet and delivering it to a transport which extends under the printer. The folder sealer also includes moistening apparatus for moistening areas on the form sheet to which a remoistable glue has been applied.

Abstract:
A self-mailing form suitable for use with laser printers and the like. The form is made from a single sheet of paper stock and comprises a rectangular upper portion and a rectangular lower portion joined by a connecting portion. The lower portion is printed with message information and the upper portion is printed with address information and the like on the reverse side of the form. The form is then folded once about the upper edge of the connecting portion so that the obverse sides of the upper and lower portions are adjacent and then again so that the upper edge of the upper portion is brought to the lower edge of the connecting portion, so that the upper portion forms an envelope around the lower portion. The form has adhesive around the edges of the upper portion to seal the resulting envelope. Perforation lines are provided transversely across the form so that after folding a tear strip is formed which includes the connecting portion.
Apparatus For Preparing A Self-Mailer Exiting A Printer
A folder sealer apparatus for creating individual mailers from sheets exiting printers, such as personal laser printers. The apparatus is adapted to sit above a printer of the type which delivers printed sheets to a tray on the top side of the printer. The folder sealer has a guide which when extended directs printed sheets to the folder and sealer mechanism but when retracted allows the printed sheets to advance into the printer tray without being folded and sealed.
A Universal Product Code (UPC) bar pattern printer comprises a loop of magnetizable recording tape moving at a constant speed past writing heads. The tape advances to a toner applicator incorporating a toner applicator drum having a surface incorporating a plurality of magnetic poles and a series of magnetizable wires parallel to the upper, longitudinal periphery of the drum. The wires and drum cause the toner material adhered to the drum to form rotating helical ridges of toner along the upper periphery of the wires. The magnetized recording tape makes physical contact with and is swept by these ridges to form a toner deposited image on the recording tape. This image is enhanced by cleaning with a sheet of air from an air knife and transferred to a label. The label is synchronously peeled from its backing and then fused by a heater. The label may then be replaced on a label backing strip for application to a package.
