Abstract:

A geometry tiler identifies tiles on a computers screen that are covered by a graphics primitive by use of edges of the graphics primitive. Precise identification of tiles of various types (such as edge tiles covered by a segment) eliminates identification of one or more tiles that are merely located adjacent to the graphics primitive, but are not touched by the graphics primitive. For example, the geometry tiler can identify each of three types of tiles: vertex tiles, edge tiles and interior tiles. In one implementation, the geometry tiler identifies all tiles that are covered by a graphics primitive in the form of a convex polygon by: (a) determining attributes of at least one segment in the convex polygon, (b) determining iteration descriptors for each segment by using the attributes, (c) for each segment in the convex polygon, scanning the segment and identifying each edge tile that is covered by the segment, and (d) for each column of tiles in the screen, going from one edge tile in the column to another edge tile in the column and identifying each interior tile that is located within an area enclosed by the segments of the primitive. In one specific implementation, the geometry tiler simultaneously identifies edge tiles that are covered by two segments of the convex polygon that are located opposite to each other (such as a top segment and a bottom segment).

Abstract:

An apparatus comprising an artificial noise (AN) controller coupled to a digital subscriber line (DSL) transmitter and configured to adjust an AN level for a signal transmitted by the DSL transmitter, wherein the AN level is adjusted based on an actual signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the signal from the receiver to achieve a desired SNR for the signal. Also disclosed is a method comprising maintaining a data rate in a line at about a desired level by adjusting an AN level in a transmitted signal based on a SNR of a received signal.

Abstract:

A method may include receiving a packet at an ingress line interface in a forwarding plane of a network element, the packet including header information. The method may also include conducting a flow table lookup in the forwarding plane to identify an existing flow for the packet and determining, in the forwarding plane and based on the header information, whether a predicted flow can be identified for the packet if an existing flow can not be identified. The method may further include performing a service access control list (ACL) lookup in the forwarding plane if a predicted flow can not be identified; and forwarding the packet to one of a services plane or an egress line interface in the forwarding plane based on one of the existing flow, the predicted flow, or the service ACL lookup.

Techniques are disclosed for obtaining and maintaining synchronization of the TTR clock during a Channel Discovery Phase of DSL transceiver initialization for a DSL service operating in a TCM-ISDN crosstalk environment. The customer premises DSL transceiver achieves synchronization of its TTR clock throughout the Channel Discovery Phase of the DSL initialization procedure using a TTR indication signal transmitted by the central office transceiver. In addition to enabling basic communications, keeping TTR synchronization improves the accuracy of quiet noise measurement and the reliability of message exchanges, even on very long and noisy loops.

Abstract:

A system and method for selecting the operational mode in an ADSL Annex C environment during the handshake operation while increasing the accuracy of the determining the throughputs across the possible frequency spectrum while only having access to the power level of a small number of frequency bins during the handshake operation. In one embodiment of the present invention, the present invention receives signals in a multiple but small number of bins and estimates the loop length based upon the signal power in at least two of these bins. The present invention then identifies the noise profile over the relevant band of frequencies (or a subset thereof) to determine the bit rate. In one embodiment, the present invention selects the mode based upon a the bit rate in a single direction. In another embodiment, the present invention selects the mode based upon both the upstream and downstream bit rates.

Abstract:

Techniques that enable a user to make VOIP phone calls using a traditional telephone by directing a communications module to connect the caller to another user are provided. The caller first dials a DID and identifies a receiver to be reached. Once the caller has identified the receiver, the caller may hang up the phone and wait until the communications module contacts the caller once the receiver has been connected. The communication module hunts the receiver using the receiver's multiple contact information by calling each of the receiver's contact numbers. Once the receiver answers one of the calls, the communications module detects that the receiver has been connected and then contacts the caller. Finally, once the caller answers the telephone, the caller and the receiver are connected and a communication may commence.
