The present invention provides a system in which audio files are distributed that include watermarks, digital signatures and/or encryption. The file may offer content owners some amount of playback control, while offering the consumer value-added content & services, and maintaining backward compatibility to existing digital file players such as MP3 players. By enticing the consumer with value-added content and services alongside the purchased songs, the consumer is encouraged to obtain these files from participating retailers and to replay the files using compliant players.
System And Method For Effects Processing On Audio Subband Data

Abstract:
An audio effects processing system and method performs audio effects processing on a subband-by-subband basis using less memory and computational resources than audio effects produced through post processing of a fullband audio signal. The input fullband audio signal is split into subbands and the compressed subbands may be stored in memory of the system as compressed audio subband data or may be generated by real time processing of a fullband audio signal. The system stores in memory a set of prototype subband effects filters, the set including echo, flange, chorus, and reverberation effects filters. A subband filter customization procedure allows a sound system designer to build customized versions of the prototype subband effects filters. One or more of the customized subband effects filters are applied to one or more of the subbands comprising the compressed audio subband data. The compressed audio subband data is then processed through a synthesis filter bank which decompresses and decodes the compressed audio subband data to produce a decompressed decoded audio output signal with the audio effects incorporated in it.
An audio encoding system includes quantization, phase matching, compressed domain processing and other improvements enabling high fidelity, low bit rate encoding systems to be formed. In a preferred embodiment a novel transient detector is used to divide an audio source into transient, low frequency non-transient and high frequency non-transient regions. Low frequency non-transients are sinusoid modeled and the residual is low frequency noise modeled. Transients are transform coded and high frequency non-transients and transform coded residual is high frequency noise modeled. The preferred embodiment also includes novel sinusoid, transform coded and noise quantization, among other methods for providing high fidelity data reduction and for interfacing sinusoid modeling and transform coding. Compressed domain time compression and expansion are further achieved with no detrimental effect on transients.

Abstract:
An audio signal analyzer and encoder is based on a model that considers audio signals to be composed of deterministic or sinusoidal components, transient components representing the onset of notes or other events in an audio signal, and stochastic components. Deterministic components are represented as a series of overlapping sinusoidal waveforms. To generate the deterministic components, the input signal is divided into a set of frequency bands by a multi-complementary filter bank. The frequency band signals are oversampled so as to suppress cross-band aliasing energy in each band. Each frequency band is analyzed and encoded as a set of spectral components using a windowing time frame whose length is inversely proportional to the frequency range in that band. Low frequency bands are encoded using longer time frames than higher frequency bands. Transient components are represented by parameters denoting sinusoidal shaped waveforms produced when the transient components are transformed into a real valued frequency domain waveform.

Abstract:
Some implementations of the disclosure relate to using a model trained on mixing console data of sound mixes to automate the process of sound mix creation. In one implementation, a non-transitory computer-readable medium has executable instructions stored thereon that, when executed by a processor, causes the processor to perform operations comprising: obtaining a first version of a sound mix; extracting first audio features from the first version of the sound mix obtaining mixing metadata; automatically calculating with a trained model, using at least the mixing metadata and the first audio features, mixing console features; and deriving a second version of the sound mix using at least the mixing console features calculated by the trained model.

Abstract:
A method of communicating multimedia data includes establishing a first connection between a transmitter unit and an administration server, establishing a second connection between a receiver unit and the administration server, assigning a same unique communication channel to the transmitter unit and the receiver unit by the administration server, establishing a third connection between the transmitter unit and the receiver unit using the same unique communication channel upon the first and second connections being established, and transmitting the multimedia data from the transmitter unit to the receiver unit via the third connection. The transmitter and receiver units respectively have unique identification codes that uniquely identify the units from other units connected to the administration server. The communication channel is assigned using the unique identification codes. The transmitter and receiver units respectively automatically initiate establishing the first and second connections upon being connected to the Internet.

Yahoo's Tax-Free Spinoff Plans for Alibaba Stake Clouded by IRS
For years, the IRS paid little if any attention to the size of an active business inside a company that was spun off, said Scott Levine, a partner at Jones Day LLP who was on a panel with Zimbalist at Tuesdays event in Washington.
"It could have an effect on many spin-offs," said Jones Day lawyer Scott Levine, who attended Tuesday's event with Zimbalist and was also a speaker at the event. "I wouldn't say it was a normal transaction, but it wasn't uncommon," he said of spin-offs that are done with what the industry refers to
