Abstract:

Adhesive tape backings comprising isotactic polypropylene blended or mixed with at least a second polyolefin. The backing is biaxially stretched so as to provide a film having any one or a combination of the following preferred characteristics: A. Puncture energy up to 20 J/cm when 2. 54 cm wide samples are tested by the method set herein, or up to 90 J/cm when 1. 27 cm wide samples are tested by the method set out herein. B. Puncture elongation up to about 1. 3 cm when 2. 54 cm wide samples are tested by the method set out herein, or up to 2. 0 cm when 1. 27 cm wide samples are tested by the method set out herein. C. Tensile strength up to 140 MPa in the MD. In a preferred embodiment, the second component comprises polyethylene, polybutylene, or syndiotactic polypropylene.

Abstract:

A W-stacked pads of tape strips dispensable at a low peel angle, comprising a plurality of superimposed tape strips longitudinally reversed so as to align the first end of each tape strip with the second end of an immediately overlaying and an immediately underlying tape strip. The individual tape strips having first and second longitudinal end portions with differential release characteristics, with the second end portion of each tape strip adhered to the first end portion of an adjacent tape strip at an adhesion level having an adhesive strength sufficient to allow release of the second end portion of an intermediate tape strip relative to the first end portion of an immediately underlying tape strip when an immediately overlying tape strip is dispensed from the pad at a low peel angle, while preventing any appreciable longitudinal movement of the second end portion of an intermediate tape strip relative to the first end portion of an immediately underlying tape strip when an immediately overlying tape strip is dispensed from the pad at a high peel angle.

Abstract:

The invention is a mating film. The mating film comprises a base sheet having a first major surface. A plurality of generally parallel ridges project from the first major surface. The ridges comprise a stem portion attached to the base sheet and generally upright from the base sheet. A head portion of each ridge is spaced from the first major surface and extends generally laterally from the stem portion so as to define a lateral distance. The center of each stem portion of each ridge is spaced from the center of each adjacent ridge stem portion by a distance greater than about 2 times lateral distance defined by the head portion.

Abstract:

An adhesive tape comprising a backing and a layer of adhesive on the backing. The backing comprises a biaxially oriented substrate which comprises an isotactic polypropylene composition. The tapes and backings of this invention can be severed readily using commercial tape dispensers having metal or plastic cutting teeth to produce cleanly serrated cut edges on the tape. The biaxially oriented substrate is preferably made from a resin comprising an isotactic polypropylene homopolymer having a melt flow rate greater than 8 grams/10 minutes, more preferably greater than 12 grams/10 minutes, and still more preferably greater than about 20 grams/10 minutes. One preferred way to obtain such a resin is to blend: A) at least one isotactic polypropylene homopolymer âAâ having a weight average molecular weight of at least 350,000 grams/mole and melt a flow rate of about 0. 5-8 grams/10 minutes, more preferably about 0. 5-5 grams/10 minutes; with B) at least one isotactic polypropylene homopolymer âBâ having a weight average molecular weight of at least 100,000 grams/mole and a melt flow rate greater than 8 grams/10 minutes, and preferably greater than about 20 grams/10 minutes, and more preferably greater than about 50 grams/10 minutes.
