Us Patents

  • Scissors Utilizing A Flexible And Detachable Thumb Ring Connection

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20100242289, Sep 30, 2010
  • Filed:
    Mar 23, 2010
  • Appl. No.:
    12/729474
  • Inventors:
Scott Roskam - Bigfork MT, US
Dennis Soucie - Bigfork MT, US
  • International Classification:
    B26B 13/00
    B25G 1/00
  • US Classification:
    30232, 30254, 30341
  • Abstract:
A scissors, useful particularly to hairdressers, comprising a finger grip handle () and a thumb grip handle () with a flexible and detachable thumb ring connection. A thumb ring () is flexibly coupled to thumb grip handle () such that universal articulated movement of thumb ring () is enabled to facilitate an improved range of natural thumb movement and an improved variable positioning of the scissors in the user's hand. Thumb ring () may alternatively be coupled to thumb grip handle () with a secure and stable connection to facilitate optimum control and accurate guidance of the scissors. A user may easily detach and reattach thumb ring () in either a flexible coupled position () or a secure coupled position () while actively cutting hair and without resort to use of tools or special manipulations. A user may continuously and easily detach and reattach thumb ring (), while the scissors are in normal operative use, thus performing the new and desirable object of more easily freeing the user's thumb to grip a comb or other appliance even while it remains inserted in thumb ring ().
  • Scissors Using A Reversed Handle Orientation With A Levered Handle

    view source
  • US Patent:
    58602151, Jan 19, 1999
  • Filed:
    Aug 7, 1996
  • Appl. No.:
    8/693392
  • Inventors:
Scott H. Roskam - Bigfork MT
Dennis E. Soucie - Bigfork MT
  • International Classification:
    B26B 1300
  • US Classification:
    30254
  • Abstract:
A scissors that is designed for use by a particular handed person that is modified to be used by an other-handed person (e. g. , a left-handed scissors for use by a right handed person) includes a pivot joint, and two blade members pivotally coupled together. At least one blade member has a levered handle behind the pivot joint. The levered handle acts on a fulcrum member to apply a lever force to a portion of the pivot joint to increase the tension and friction between the cutting edges of the blade members, when the motion of the users thumb and fingers would otherwise tend to pull the blade members apart and decrease tension and friction between the blade members, if no levered handle was present.
  • Rideless Scissors With An Adjustable Load Transverse To The Pivot Axis On A Pivot Joint

  • US Patent:
    54408130, Aug 15, 1995
  • Filed:
    Jun 4, 1993
  • Appl. No.:
    8/071781
  • Inventors:
Scott H. Roskam - Bigfork MT
  • International Classification:
    B26B 1328
  • US Classification:
    30254
  • Abstract:
An improved scissors includes a pivot joint having a pivot axis, a first blade member having a first cutting edge and a longitudinal axis, and a second blade member having a second cutting edge. The second blade member is pivotally coupled by the pivot joint to the first blade member with the first cutting edge adjacent and in contact with the second cutting edge. Moreover, the pivot joint is coupled to the first blade member to incline the first blade member relative to the second blade member and the pivot joint, so that the inclination of the first blade member produces a load transverse to the pivot axis of the pivot joint, which corresponds to the direction along the longitudinal axis of the first blade member to produce and determine the tension and friction along the cutting edges. The load transverse to the pivot axis may be oblique to the pivot axis of the pivot joint and may also be inclined between 0. 1 to 10. 0 degrees from an axis perpendicular to the pivot axis and along the longitudinal axis of the first blade member.

  • US Patent:
    56946945, Dec 9, 1997
  • Filed:
    Aug 5, 1994
  • Appl. No.:
    8/286301
  • Inventors:
Scott H. Roskam - Bigfork MT
  • Assignee:
Maksor, L.L.C., a Limited Liability Company - Bigfork MT
  • International Classification:
    B23B 1328
Further, the first blade member may also include a first ride area, and the second blade member may also include a second ride area, so that the first ride area is spaced from and free of contact with the second ride area. Therefore, the scissors may be substantially free of any friction or drag at the "ride" area.

  • US Patent:
    56923058, Dec 2, 1997
  • Filed:
    Jun 6, 1995
  • Appl. No.:
    8/467029
  • Inventors:
Scott H. Roskam - Bigfork MT
  • International Classification:
    B26B 1328
  • US Classification:
    30254
  • Abstract:
A scissors includes a pivot joint having a pivot axis, a first blade member and a second blade member. The first blade member has a first cutting edge, a longitudinal axis, and a pivot joint hole. The pivot joint hole being inclined at least 1. 0 degree relative to a line perpendicular to the longitudinal axis (which corresponds to an angle "a" of 89. 0 degrees or less with respect to the longitudinal axis) in a direction along the longitudinal axis of the first blade member, and is shaped to hold the pivot joint in a fixed inclination. The second blade member has a second cutting edge, and is pivotally coupled by the pivot joint to the first blade member with the first cutting edge adjacent to the second cutting edge. The pivot joint is also coupled to the first blade member through the pivot joint hole in the first blade member, and the pivot joint is maintained in a fixed inclined orientation relative to the direction along the longitudinal axis of the first blade member. This inclines the first blade member relative to the second blade member and the pivot joint to produce a load transverse to the pivot axis of the pivot joint corresponding to the direction along the longitudinal axis of the first blade member.
